Sherlock Holmes - renowned detective Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) with his colleague Dr. John Watson (Jude Law), acting on the big screen.

This duo of Sherlock HolmesKali friends must solve a case in which the perpetrator is a threat to the UK.

Five people have been killed a woman and the perpetrator is a devil worshiper named Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong).

Although captured and threatened hanging, but Blackwood promised to revenge the rise from the grave, and death after death will not be inevitable.

To ensure this, Holmes and Watson investigate the more intense. Especially after Blackwood actually rose three days after the funeral.

There was a witness who saw the incident, while the incident is of course a little tarnished Watson's face as he announced the death of Blackwood.

To be sure, not only involves the puzzle action, romance spice Irene shown with his share Adler (Rachel McAdams), who is a lover Holmes snapper class criminals. A series of events yet again, the fight until the explosion must pass Holmes.

Unfortunately, though his character was adapted from the classic novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle from Scotland who built in 1887, but the movie was not taken from one of his books.

However, the film director Guy Ritchie neatly illustrate nuances 'dark' in the era of England 1800-1900's. Not to mention, the puzzle case revealed at the end of the movie.

And apparently, the presence of the late Professor Moriarty in the film, could be a sign of a sequel for it.

Sherlock Holmes film is scheduled to release on December 25 next in America. Hopefully this film can also quickly fell in Indonesia, so you can judge the action duo of Holmes and Watson.

Sherlock Holmes is a fictional detective created an English Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. He is usually accompanied by colleagues Dr. Watson in his adventures. He is famous for deduction and intelligence capabilities in solving the case.

Sherlock Holmes called himself "consulting detective", who asked for help in a case when the case is considered too difficult to solve other police and detectives; we even heard that he can solve a case without leaving his home. He is very powerful in resolving cases of unusual skills to use extraordinary analysis, and often also show this ability to create a new client with a direct analysis of the person or things have just done the client. This strategy, of course, not surprising and never failed to make his clients believe in his ability.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle based Holmes on his teacher creation at the University of Edinburgh Medical School, a surgeon who is very talented and also a forensic detective Joseph Bell, in which forensic science into a new science at that time. "Holmes" named for Oliver Wendell Holmes who was admired by Conan Doyle, and the English cricket athletes named Sherlock.

Sherlock Holmes lived at 221B Baker Street since 1881 where he spent his years with his colleague, dr. John H. Watson, who with whom he shared a room for some time until Watson was married to Mary Morstan in 1890. The landlord is a Scottish woman named Mrs.. Hudson.

In most of the story was accompanied by Dr. Holmes. Watson, who not only colleagues, but also a writer. Most of the story told by Dr. Holmes. Watson, of the solution in a criminal matter; in subsequent stories, Holmes criticized Watson for his writings because Watson used to write it as a story rather than a scientific explanation.

Holmes had a brother, Mycroft Holmes, who appeared in 3 stories, Greek Translation, Last Case, and the Bruce-Partington Plans.

The Storm Warriors

The Storm Warriors (simplified Chinese: 风云II; traditional Chinese: 風雲II) is a 2009 Hong Kong martial arts/wuxia film, produced and directed by the Pang brothers. It is the second live-action film adaptation of screenwriter Ma Wing-Shing's manhua Fung Wan, following the 1998 film The Storm Riders. The Storm Warriors is based on Fung Wan′s popular Japanese invasion story arc The Death Battle. Ekin Cheng and Aaron Kwok respectively reprise their roles as Wind and Cloud, who this time find themselves up against Lord Godless (Simon Yam), a ruthless Japanese warlord bent on invading China. The film is a co-production between Universe Entertainment and Sil-Metropole Organisation.

A sequel to The Storm Riders was first announced in March 2008 after Universe gained rights to the Fung Wan franchise from former film distributor Golden Harvest. The Pangs aimed on creating a big-budgeted film involving visual effects and stated that The Storm Warriors would not be a direct sequel to its 1998 predecessor. Principal photography for The Storm Warriors began in April 2008 and ended in July; filming took place in three studios located in Bangkok, Thailand. The film is notable for being the first Chinese language film shot in bluescreen. During post-production, effects artists worked on scenes involving computer-generated imagery, focusing on the film's setting and backgrounds.

The Storm Warriors was released theatrically in Hong Kong on 10 December 2009. [1]

The evil Japanese warlord Lord Godless (Simon Yam) desires to conquer China. He threatens the General in command into surrender, takes the emperor captive and subdues a large number of martial arts masters using his special poison. Among the captives are Cloud (Aaron Kwok) who surrendered out of concern for Chu Chu (Tang Yan), and the Mou Lam legend Nameless (Kenny Ho). Lord Godless gives them two choices, they can either surrender and work under him, or they will be executed. None of the masters accept the offer. Nameless then breaks free of his chains, revealing that Wind (Ekin Cheng) sneaked in earlier to give all the masters the antidote to the poison. Cloud and Wind land direct blows on Lord Godless with no noticeable effect, and even though several other martial arts masters combine their powers to attack Lord Godless, they lose the contest of strength and are killed. Nameless uses his special attack on Lord Godless, using his chi to launch all the captured masters' swords at Lord Godless, Lord Godless takes the attack head on and blocks all the swords while Nameless suffers serious internal injuries because he overtaxed himself while not fully recovered from the poison. Some other martial artists raid the prison on horseback and Nameless, Cloud, Wind and Chu Chu manage to escape, while Lord Godless sends his son, Heart and two lieutenants, Earth and Sky, after Nameless with an army, with orders to destroy any martial arts schools along the way who will not surrender.

Nameless is badly injured and will not be able to recover his full strength to fight with Lord Godless for a significant period of time, so he sends Cloud and Wind to find Piggy King's elder brother, Lord Wicked, who is the only person who can fight Lord Godless now. They go to the mountain where he has hid himself from the outside world but are unsuccessful in persuading him to help, until Wind's lover Second Dream shows up and aids in persuading Lord Wicked. Lord Wicked comes out of his cave, revealing that he had chopped off his own arms years ago. This was his attempt to stop killing innocent people because he had lost control of himself in his younger days while practicing evil kung-fu. He kicks some pebbles at Cloud and Wind to test how they react, Cloud crushes the pebbles totally while Wind only catches them intact. Lord Wicked states that Cloud is too aggressive and will not be able to handle training in the evil way, while Wind has more control and might be able to return to normal. Lord Wicked then starts training Wind in evil arts while Cloud is summoned to meet Nameless at Lin Yi Temple.

At Lin Yi Temple, Cloud fights a disguised Nameless, who states that Cloud has massive potential, able to accurately learn his styles in a short period of time, and trains him, eventually creating a new sword style which Nameless names "Ba", inventing a new character partially resembling the characters "Cloud" and "Sword". Lord Godless discovers where Nameless, Wind and Cloud have been hiding and dispatches Earth and Sky to kill Nameless while sending a few warriors after Wind. At the temple, Cloud easily defeats Earth and Sky in a single blow, but as Lord Wicked and the others are fighting off the warriors that Lord Godless sent, Second Dream gets injured and Wind interrupts his training to come out of the cave and save her, killing the warriors in the process. Afterward he leaves with his training unfinished, despite it supposedly not being possible to leave the pool yet. Cloud arrives to find Wind gone, and Lord Wicked sends Cloud after Lord Godless as he is trying to find the Dragon Tomb which contains a secret that deals with the destiny of China.

Lord Godless meanwhile has taken the Emperor and his family as hostages and is searching for the Dragon Tomb. The Emperor refuses to help him, but Heart is able to find out which path into the tomb is the correct one through the use of his chi that generated a massive wind when he picked the correct passage. Once at the end of the path, Heart starts threatening the Emperor for more information on the Dragon Tomb, but as he refuses to speak, Heart starts killing his wives and sons. Cloud arrives, and the guards which were Imperial Guards that were forced to surrender, switch sides instantly and pull the Emperor out of harm's way. Cloud and Heart exchanges blows, Heart backs off after the first exchange, and Cloud and Lord Godless starts fighting, Cloud initially has the upper hand but is unable to injure Lord Godless due to his near invincible armor. In the fight, a pile of rocks is blown away, revealing the entrance to the real Dragon Tomb, which contains a human skeleton sitting upright. Lord Godless almost kills Cloud in the next exchange of blows, but Wind, whom has been thoroughly possessed by the evil arts, arrives and fights against first Lord Godless, then Cloud, and then both of them, eventually killing Lord Godless by cutting off his arm from the underside of his armor, which was not as well protected and stealing the Dragon Bone, the secret of the tomb.

As Cloud chases after Wind, the Emperor begs Cloud to retrieve the Dragon Bone as it is crucial to the destiny of China. Second Dream eventually finds Wind at the secret place she had written to him in a letter about, but Wind just sits there with minimal response, and eventually the Emperor's guards arrive to try and take the Dragon Bone back. However as the General struggles with Second Dream over the dragon bone, Heart, which had escaped from the previous battle, grabs the bone and heavily injures the General, as the General and Heart struggle for the bone, it breaks into two and Wind gets fully taken over by the evil spirit again. Cloud arrives and fights Wind to try and bring him back, but fails as Wind eventually wounds Second Dream and also kills Chu Chu. In a final gambit, Cloud hurls his sword at Wind, cutting him on the forehead and Wind miraculously regains control. The cliff side has taken serious damage in the battle however, and a large section collaspes, causing Wind and Second Dream (who walks over to check on her beloved) to fall off the cliff. Cloud is not in the section of the cliff that collapses. However, Cloud jumps off the cliff as well, manages to fall faster than the Wind and Second Dream, and exerts a force to push Wind and Second Dream back to safety. In doing so, Cloud plummets into the depths, but there is no scene of him dying. Sitting safely on the stable part of the cliff, Wind laments about why Cloud did not kill him earlier when Cloud had the chance. The movie ends abruptly at this stage.

Cast and characters

* Ekin Cheng reprises his role as Whispering Wind, a kindhearted and trustworthy pugilist. He is willing to sacrifice himself in order to save the life of his friend, Cloud. He undertakes the path of evil to improve his prowess in martial arts in the fastest time possible to get rid of the Japanese invaders. Cheng reprises his role from the first film and decided to grow back his former long-hair extensions. He was excited about reprising his role and never thought that he would be able to reprise his role after appearing in the first film: "I've always liked the character, especially when I was reading the comics. I had wanted to make a Fung Wan movie even before The Storm Riders was made. I never thought I would be able to do it again 10 years later!"[3]

* Aaron Kwok reprises his role as Striding Cloud, an unruly pugilist who is wanted by the Chinese Emperor. He is kidnapped by the villain, Lord Godless and inadvertently uncovers Godless' secret plan to invade China. Kwok was "ecstatic" about acting in a sequel to The Storm Riders, despite realizing how difficult the filming process would be. He prepared for the role by exercising and weight training. On the first day of filming, Kwok was injured right in front of many reporters who were covering the act but he did not sustain any serious injury. Kwok described Cloud as "a very complex character, and people will see a more developed version of him here. He is more mature this time, and more 'human' too. You see him as a real human character, not just a comic character."[3]

* Simon Yam as Lord Godless, an evil warlord from Japan who desires to invade China. He captures and imprisons a large group of pugilists, including the Chinese Emperor. The character is based on the comic series' Japanese Invasion story arc, The Death Battle. During filming, Yam faced physical difficulties on the set. He had to perform with a blue and green screen, and dealt with the set's high temperature levels: "I have been acting for many years, I think this is the only time I had to change ten pairs of underwear daily. Everyday I was soaked. During the shoot I lost five pounds." Yam expressed that early in the shoot he had cramps. In order to replenish his energy he had to drink salt water.[4]

* Charlene Choi as Second Dream, the only daughter of Mou Lam legend "The King of Broadsword". She is well trained in using the broadsword as a child and inherits the great skills of her father. She aids Wind when Cloud is kidnapped by Lord Godless. The Storm Warriors marks Choi and Ekin Cheng's fifth feature film collaboration as actors: "He and I have played lovers, couples, friends and siblings. Although we have played lovers many times before, this time felt very fresh perhaps due to the costume and the comic book background."[5]

* Nicholas Tse as Heart, the eldest son and competent assistant of Lord Godless.

* Tang Yan as Chu Chu, the daughter of Kirin Arm who accompanied Cloud on his nomadic journey. Tang replaces Shu Qi, who played Chu Chu in the first film.

* Kenny Ho as Nameless, a Mou Lam legend who is superior in martial arts and regarded as the greatest enemy to Lord Godless. He pins his hopes on Wind and Cloud to save the world.

* Lam Suet as The Piggy King, an ugly-looking and womanising pugilist who likes to fool around. He is entrusted by Nameless to lead Wind and Cloud to Lord Wicked.

* Kenny Wong as Lord Wicked, the eldest disciple of the King of Knives and the Piggy King. He is a reclusive and renowned martial arts master who broke his arms in order to relieve himself from evil power. Wind and Cloud seek his help to improve their skills.

* Patrick Tam as The Chinese Emperor, who is kidnapped by Lord Godless.

Sorority ROW : Killer From The Past

Cassidy (Briana Evigan), Jessica (Leah Pipes), Claire (Jamie Chung), Ellie (Rumer Willis) and Megan (Audrina Patridge) were five members of their organization on campus. Before becoming a member they have vowed to trust each other and protect each other no matter what happens. Oath that they will have to prove when one murder victim.

One time, Megan's boyfriend cheated on and the fourth best friend Megan is trying to hurt Megan replied with a crazy plan. Megan will be playing dead to scare her boyfriend who defected. Unfortunately, because of one mistake, Megan ended up truly dead. Afraid of their future ruined, Cassidy, Jessica, Claire, and Ellie Megan then hid the body and pretend it never happened.

The plan went smoothly until the time graduation comes. On the fourth day of happy friends plan to celebrate the historic day by holding a party. When all think things are going well, suddenly emerged videos taken at the time of Megan's death and one by one members of the organization died in a tragic way.

Actually, to describe the plot of the movie remake film titled THE HOUSE ON ROW Sorority is not required too many words. Just a few short sentences have been able to describe the 101-minute length movies this clearly. Finally, there is a row of real scenes show only prolong the duration of the film to be called a full feature film.

The flow was followed by the generic sort. This means that other films including PROM NIGHT also follow the more or less the same. Finally, just offered a series of scenes that supposedly made to create an atmosphere so tense, although not all scenes can finally achieve the desired effect. Can not be blamed for this thriller is already too much.

For a show that was not too demanding thinking, this ROW Sorority was not too bad. That means you can sit down with unencumbered ease any temporary until the movie ends in the middle between the beginning and end of the movie you can enjoy the bloody scene, a woman naked and sometimes crude humor is not funny. Appropriate for consumption when you are bored with everyday activities that make you tired.

Tango and Cash

Tango & Cash is a 1989 American action/comedy film directed by Andrei Konchalovsky (Albert Magnoli took over in the later stages of filming), and starring Sylvester Stallone, Kurt Russell, Teri Hatcher, and Jack Palance.

Tango and Cash describes the final episode in the struggle by LAPD narcotics detectives Ray Tango (Stallone) and Gabriel Cash (Russell) to thwart the plans of criminal mastermind Yves Perret (Palance). After Perret frames them for murder, the two detectives escape from prison and kill Perret and his underlings.

The film begins with Tango driving a late-model Cadillac convertible in pursuit of a tanker truck. His hair is neatly styled, and he is dressed in a three-piece suit. He cleverly stops the truck, and when the LA County authorities find only gasoline in the tank, he shoots the tank and cocaine pours out of the bullet hole. Meanwhile, Cash arrives at his apartment driving an old Corvette. His hair is long and shaggy, and he is dressed in jeans, a T-shirt, and a waist-length jacket. He is shot by an intruder, but is protected by a bullet-proof vest, and captures the shooter in a parking garage after a car chase. At the police station, Cash forces the shooter to tell him about a deal scheduled to take place that night.

However, the "deal" is really a plan by Perret to frame Tango and Cash for murder. Tango and Cash separately go to an empty building, preceded by a man who is revealed later in the film to be Requin (James), Perret's lead henchman. After surprising each other, the two detectives find a dead man with audio equipment hidden under his clothing, and a team of FBI agents swarms in. Wyler, the agent in charge, finds Cash's pistol on the floor and arrests both Cash and Tango.

At their murder trial, the detectives are incriminated by an audio tape, secretly given to Wyler by Requin and verified in court by an audio expert, which appears to reveal them shooting the FBI agent after discussing a drug purchase. They plead "no contest" to a lesser charge in exchange for reduced sentences in a minimum-security prison, but are transported to a maximum-security prison to be housed with many of the criminals they arrested in the past.

Once in prison, Tango and Cash are rousted from their bunks and tortured by Perret, Requin, and a gang of prisoners until Matt Zachowski, the assistant warden, rescues them. Zachowski recommends that they escape, and provides them with a plan, but Tango refuses to go along with it. When Cash tries to escape, he finds Zachowski murdered and is attacked by prisoners. Tango rescues him, and the two of them escape. Once outside the prison walls, Tango tells Cash to ask for his sister Katherine (Hatcher) at a dance club if he needs to contact him later, and they go separate ways.

The detectives then visit the witnesses who framed them in court. Wyler admits to Tango that Requin was in charge of the setup, and Cash discovers that the audio expert made the incriminating tape himself. Cash finds Katherine at the dance club, working as an exotic dancer. Later that night, Tango and Cash are met at Katherine's house by Tango's commanding officer, who gives them Requin's address and tells them they have 24 hours to find out who Requin works for. Tango and Cash apprehend Requin and trick him into telling them Perret's name. Armed with a high-tech assault vehicle, they drive to Perret's headquarters, crash through the outer fence, destroy a fleet of armed trucks, hijack two heavy vehicles, crash into the main building, and kill several guards.

At this point, Perret, who has kidnapped Katherine, starts a timer that will trigger the building's automatic self-destruct procedure. After killing Perret's core security personnel, Tango and Cash are confronted by Requin, who is holding Katherine at knifepoint but throws her aside to fight the detectives hand-to-hand with the help of another henchman. The detectives defeat the two criminals, and when Perret appears, holding a gun to Katherine's head, they kill him and leave with Katherine just before the building explodes. Afterward, they joke half-seriously about Cash's desire to date Katherine. The film ends with a newspaper headline celebrating their vindication.

The Salena Incident

Plot Outline: During a routine transport, a group of prisoners manage to overpower their guards and take them captive. On the run, they enter the peaceful town of Salena and think they're free. However whilst they are there, they encounter a threat more powerful than anything they could imagine - flesh-eating aliens have crash-landed there and are hungry!

The Review: A traumatic experience in cheap movie making is the only threat anyone could encounter if they slap this into their DVD player. The Salena Incident has vision of grandeur but like many low budget films, it has expectations which would never be fulfilled by such a low budget and incompetent writing. Starting off with an Aliens-like slaughter of a commando team, the film never really gets into first gear. I guess the scene does it's job in establishing the threat of the aliens but once you know that they can sweep a commando unit into the ground pretty quickly, a bunch of cons, guards and big-chested blondes aren't going to do much later on. Things don't get any better with the introductions of the various cons and guards. Each one has their own trait to distinguish them from the others but that's about the only thing separating them. At least the film gets the rag-tag group of cons and guards into the town as feasibly quick as they can and they don't drag out the escape longer than is needed. Once they get to the town, events happen in a never-ending cycle of monotony. Characters are attacked by aliens. One is possessed or eaten. Aliens stop attacking to allow the infiltration into the group of the now-possessed body. Said possessed person then reveals themselves. Cue the whole process starting again. Throw in firefights and a few explosions here and there (and yes it looks like the same explosion effect used time and time again)

The film uses the body possession plot device that I hate - you know, when the characters become possessed by the aliens and they use the human bodies to move around. In reality it's just a cheap way to get around showing the aliens on screen. For some reason, the aliens eat certain characters but then possess others. You can tell a character is possessed by their eyes turning black. So I guess no one realises their former lover or friend is now an alien with two big bulbous black things peering back at them? The aliens get a little messy too, with a severed hand and severed body being the highlights. But the gore effects are unconvincing and don't look anywhere as good as they needed to be.
The cast is also non-descript. One of them used to be a Power Ranger. A couple of them have never worked again after this. It doesn't surprise me in the slightest because any smart casting director wouldn't even recognise this on a résumé. Enough said about them. Enough said about the film really, I'm just wasting my time. I didn't enjoy it. I endured it.

Final Verdict: I'm not sure whether this has been released in the US yet. It doesn't look like it. But let me tell you from across the Pond, you're not missing anything in the slightest. In fact do yourself a favour and petition for The Salena Incident to never be released there...ever. The less people that watch this, the better the world will be.

Balibo Five Film

The Balibo Five were a group of journalists for Australian television networks based in the town of Balibo in East Timor (then Portuguese Timor) where they were killed on 16 October 1975 during Indonesian incursions prior to the invasion.[1]

In 2007, an Australian coroner ruled that they had been deliberately killed by Indonesian special force soldiers.[2] The official Indonesian version is that the men were killed by cross-fire during the battle for the town.[3]

The group comprised two Australians, reporter Greg Shackleton, 27 and sound recordist Tony Stewart, 21; a New Zealander, cameraman Gary Cunningham, 27, for HSV-7 (Seven Network) in Melbourne; and two Britons, cameraman Brian Peters, 29 and reporter Malcolm Rennie, 28 working for TCN-9 (Nine Network) in Sydney.[1][4][5]

While the men were aware that Indonesian troops were to mount an attack on the town, they believed that as Australian journalists, they would not be considered military targets. Greg Shackleton was filmed painting an Australian flag and the word 'AUSTRALIA' on the wall of a house known locally as the Chinese house.[1]

The level of prior knowledge within the Australian government of Indonesian plans to attack Balibo and target journalists to prevent Indonesian military involvement being demonstrated is debated.[6]

The Balibo Housing Trust, funded by the Victorian Government, now owns the Chinese house and preserves it as a community learning centre.
Roger East

Roger East, 50, an Australian AAP-Reuters journalist, travelled to East Timor to investigate the deaths of the five men. East was captured in Dili by the Indonesian military on 7 December 1975, the day of the invasion, and executed by firing squad on the morning of 8 December with his body being disposed of in the ocean. He has been refered to as the forgotten sixth member of the Balibo Five. Calls for an inquest into East's death have been rejected.

A 1999 government enquiry into the deaths of the Balibo Five and Roger East, conducted by the former chairman of the National Crime Authority and Australian Government Solicitor Tom Sherman, found no evidence of murder for the five but accused Indonesia of burning their bodies in a charade to destroy all evidence of a monumental blunder following their deaths in crossfire. However, in contrast to the Balibo incident, the killing of Roger East:

"took place in an urban area with a number of uninvolved persons in close proximity. The quality of the evidence on Roger East’s death was much higher. The evidence came from two eyewitnesses, supported by strong circumstantial evidence of the killing from two further witnesses. In relation to Roger East I have concluded that, it is more likely than not, he was summarily executed by an unidentified Indonesian soldier late of the morning of December 8, 1975, in the wharf area of Dili."

Advocacy

Greg Shackleton's widow, Shirley, became an outspoken supporter of East Timor's fight for independence. Other relatives were so traumatised by the event that for many years they did not pursue the matter any further. In 1994, Brian Peters' sister, Maureen Tolfree, became involved with the East Timor issue, having heard of a demonstration in her home town of Bristol against the sale of BAE Hawk fighter jets to Indonesia.[7]

Musician Paul Stewart was a teenager when his twenty-one year old brother Tony died. He later formed the Dili Allstars with Colin Buckler (of the band Painters and Dockers). They recorded a song with East Timorese musician Gil Santos to protest the capture of East Timorese resistance leader Xanana Gusmão by Indonesian armed forces in 1992.[citation needed]

Stewart worked as a consultant on the 2009 film Balibo, saying that it was a difficult but rewarding experience, and that it was one that finally presented the truth to the world. Now running a charity that donates musical instruments to East Timor, Stewart said the film highlighted the Australian government's lack of action over the deaths of the journalists. "To this day, the one phone call my mother's had from the Government came a couple of weeks after it all happened when someone from the embassy in Jakarta called and asked 'where should we send the bill for the coffin?'" he said.[8]

Malcolm Rennie's mother, Minna, later became involved with the issue until her death, as did his cousin Margaret Wilson.[9]

In 2006, the International Press Institute sent a letter to United Nations Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, to express concern that UN investigators had failed to fully investigate the deaths of the Balibo Five, as well as three other journalists killed in Timor-Leste in 1975 and 1999, and to request that the UN reopen their investigations.[5]

Robert Connolly, director of the 2009 film, said: "It's quite clear the journalists were murdered. The current Indonesian and Australian (government) point of view that they were killed in crossfire is quite frankly absurd. We seek out war criminals from World War II, so to dismiss calls for justice for the Balibo Five is crazy." [10]
2007 inquest into death of Brian Peters

On 5 February 2007, the New South Wales (NSW) Coroner's Court began an inquest into Peters' death.[11] Although a British citizen, lawyers for the journalists’ families successfully argued that as Peters was a resident of New South Wales at the time of his death, NSW jurisdiction applied. This was the first public inquiry held regarding the fate of the Balibo Five that had powers to call witnesses.[12]

On the first day of the inquest, Yunus Yosfiah, former Minister for Information in the Habibie Government in Indonesia in 1998 and 1999, was accused of having led the 1975 attack in Balibo. Allegations were also raised that the journalists' bodies were dressed post-mortem into military uniforms and posed with weapons to make them appear to have taken an active part in the fighting.

The Australian media reported that the Australian Defence Signals Directorate intercepted an Indonesian military radio communication suggesting that the five were killed on the orders of superiors.[12]

An eyewitness account described seeing the five men before they were killed. "At this point Indonesian Army Captain Yunus Yosfiah and his team shot the journalists who were unarmed with their hands in the air ... I saw them shoot. A lot of them were firing. They fired towards the white people."

According to evidence presented, the fifth Balibo victim locked himself in a bathroom but was stabbed in the back with a special forces knife when he emerged.

Mark Tedeschi QC, in his closing statement to the inquest, stated, "There is incontrovertible evidence, including eyewitness accounts, that Indonesian troops deliberately killed the Balibo five newsmen. At least three of the journalists were shot after an order was given by Captain Yunus Yosfiah and the fifth man was stabbed by officer Christoforus Da Silva. It is highly unlikely the Captain would have made the decision to kill the newsmen without the sanction of his superior officers. There is enough evidence to refer the case to the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions to consider prosecuting two unnamed people for the war crime of wilful killing."[12]

The NSW coroner investigating held that "The Balibo Five ... were shot and or stabbed deliberately, and not in the heat of battle" in order to silence them from exposing Indonesia's 1975 East Timor invasion.[2]
War Crimes Investigation

On September 9, 2009, it was announced that the Australian Federal Police were launching a war crimes probe into the deaths of the Balibo Five.[13]

A feature film about the killing of the men, called Balibo, has been produced by Arenafilm in Australia, with Robert Connolly as director and David Williamson as screenwriter.[14] The film is based on Cover-Up, by Jill Jolliffe, an Australian journalist who met the men before they were killed. The book has been a source of controversy because of its criticism of some of the people involved in the campaign for justice.[15] Journalist John Pilger has criticised the reworking of the film's screenplay to play down the Australian government's cover-up of the killings and the removal of scenes which showed the effect of the cover-up on their families [16].

Attending the premiere of Balibo at the Melbourne International Film Festival on July 24, 2009 at Melbourne's Hamer Hall was the President of East Timor, Jose Ramos Horta, who fought for his country's independence in exile for 24 years. Horta alleged in the evening's closing speech that the Balibo Five were tortured and killed by Indonesian forces. Horta said of the recent changes in Indonesia: "It is better. Indonesian democracy today is one of the most inspiring in the south-east Asia region."[11] Also in attendance were the families of the Balibo Five, who were called to the stage by director Robert Connolly. Relatives of Tony Stewart held aloft a banner bearing his name which had been embroidered by East Timorese women.[13] A tearful Maureen Tolfree, sister of the Balibo Five's Brian Peters, said she hoped many Australians would see the film and learn the truth about the events that happened some 35 years ago. "I think it will bring to the Australian public what's gone on," she said.[14]

In December 2009, the authorities in Indonesia banned the film from public screening.[17]

The Horsemen Film

Horsemen is a 2009 horror/thriller film directed by Jonas Åkerlund and starring Dennis Quaid and Zhang Ziyi. It was released on March 6, 2009. It was filmed in Toronto, Winnipeg and Chicago.

Aidan Breslin (Dennis Quaid) is a bitter detective emotionally distanced from his two young sons following the untimely death of his devoted wife. While investigating a series of murders of rare violence, he discovers a terrifying link between himself and the suspects in a chain of murders that seem to be based on the Biblical prophecies concerning the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: War, Famine, Pestilence, and Death.
Story

The movie opens with an older man and his dog out on a winter morning hunt, when a strange sight catches his eye. A serving tray on a stand in the middle of a frozen lake. He steps up to investigate, but notices the phrases "Come and See" on several trees surrounding the tray. When he lifts the lid, his eyes widen, but his fate is not shown.

Detective Aidan Breslin (Dennis Quaid) is an emotionally detached widower whose life with his two sons have been devoid of personal contact since the death of his beloved wife. He receives a call of a possible murder. He arrives at the lake and is instead asked to identify a man's teeth, due to his former dental forensics expertise it is as yet undetermined if the man is in fact dead. Using the evidence on the teeth, he is able to determine the sex, race, diet and approximate age of the victim which matches that of a man who had earlier been reported as missing, but they have no evidence to what happened to him, and the only clue were that trees surrounding him reading "Come and See" on the north, south, east and west banks. The bizarre murder of a beloved wife and mother of three (including an adopted Asian daughter Kristin) displays prominent features of a ritualistic killing. She had been strung up on a series of hooks, the bedroom painted red and according to an autopsy report, she had been drowned by her own blood due to a precise stabbing through the lung and heart walls, as well as a bizarre twist that she had been pregnant and the fetus was removed. On the walls of the rooms "Come and See" is displayed prominently on all four walls. Using physical evidence, Breslin is able to determine that there were four attackers, and they used a tripod for a camera to record the murder. Breslin attempts to console the grieving daughters, but is interrupted by the arrival of their father.

Meanwhile, Breslin's home life finds that though he attempts, his work continually interrupts his chances of attaching emotionally with his sons Alex and Sean. Another murder occurs, with the same M.O. through a man who is hanging in a living room surrounded by black colors. This leads Breslin to a tattoo parlor and finds the builder of the hook rigs who confirms he had constructed four in total. Another murder occurs, but this time in a hotel room with no hook rigging and only three notices of "Come and See" on the walls. Sean's insights point Breslin to the Bible and he discovers that these killings are much like the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, the colors of the room corresponding to the colors of the horsemen. "Come and See" goading them toward the lifting of the veil and the coming of the Apocalypse. Kristin contacts him unexpectedly and he goes to meet with her, and console her in her mourning. However during the conversation, she shocks Breslin by presenting her sibling's fetus and revealing she was involved in the murders. After her arrest, her interrogations make her appear unhinged, almost wanting for death. Breslin assumes that she is the one representing the Horseman of Death, as she approached each of the victims and delivered the killing blow to them.

Alex, growing more and more distant from his father after Breslin insisted not to continue to celebrate their late mother's birthday every year slowly starts to open himself up to his father. Breslin returns the feelings to his children and attempts to make plans with them, however further reports pull him away. A failed attempt to catch the Horsemen at their home base grants further clues. A website, which Breslin noticed the homepage of before the computer was destroyed, and a partial hard drive recovery which leads them to that website in which a future date is displayed. One boy, Cory, who had come out as gay to his family confronts his homophobic brother Taylor, and turns out to be one of the Horsemen. After stabbing a man, but leaving him alive to provide his description to police and takes Taylor. Taylor awakens to find that he is hooked up into a rack with his eyes fixed open in the middle of a green lit room, as his brother comes out of the darkness and while wielding a bone saw he proceeds to cut himself in the chest and kill himself before Taylor's eyes while trying to cut his own heart out. The following morning, a traumatized Taylor is questioned by Breslin, who goes over to Kristin's house and he and his partner Stingray discover the video recordings of her mother's murder, he then learns that she had been sexually abused by her father, and has him arrested. Breslin's boss tries to get him onto another case, but he becomes convinced that there is still another pending victim as four rigs had been constructed and only 3 had been used in the 4 recent murders. He approaches Kristin that the third victim was the Horseman Pestilence. The third Horseman identified, she refuses to relinquish who their leader is. He comes to the conclusion that due to the nature of the first murder, he was meant to be assigned to the case all along, and becomes concerned that his family will be targeted next.

Stingray is attacked when investigating the Breslin home at his request, and when Aidan arrives he searches the house, entering his son's room for the first time since his wife's passing, only to discover to his horror that everything in the room, floor, ceiling, computer, bed spread are white in color; the color of the Horsemen leader. The clues point him to a theater called the Metropolitan, which had earlier been confirmed to be where Aidan first met his wife. When he arrives, he is knocked unconscious by an unseen assailant, when he arrives he finds himself handcuffed to the stadium seating as he finds his son dangling over the stage on the final of the four rigs. Watching, terrified as Alex starts bleeding to death, gives him a speech regarding to his own emotional detachment after being the only one present when his mother died. As Alex succumbs to his injuries, Breslin rips his handcuffs off the seating and fires his gun to detatch the rigging from the ceiling. Alex awakens weakly as his father holds him, but it is undetermined if he survives. In the final scene, Sean wakes up from a bad dream as his father comforts him quietly. When he asks where Alex is, Breslin replies: "Don't you worry about Alex. Alex is going to be okay." In the director's commentary, however, Jonas Akerlund stated," There is no happy ending, however you twist and turn it. There is no happy ending so, to me, Alex had to die in this movie."

Astro Boy (鉄腕アトム, Tetsuwan Atomu?, lit. "Mighty Atom") is a Japanese manga series first published in 1952 and television program first broadcast in Japan in 1963. The story follows the adventures of a fictional robot named Astro Boy and a selection of other characters along the way.

Astro Boy is the first Japanese television series that embodied the aesthetic that later became familiar worldwide as anime.[2] It originated as a manga in 1952 by Osamu Tezuka, revered in Japan as the "God of Manga."[3] After enjoying success abroad, Astro Boy was remade in the 1980s as Shin Tetsuwan Atomu, known as Astroboy in the United States and other Western countries, and again in 2003. In November 2007, he was named Japan's envoy for overseas safety.[4] An American computer-animated 3-D film based on the original manga series by Tezuka was released on October 23, 2009.

The Astro Boy series consists of several storylines, many of which are self-contained and self-concluding. Frederik L. Schodt, who wrote the English-language adaptation of the series, said that as Tezuka's art style advanced, Astro Boy "became more modern and "cute"" to appeal to the audience of boys in elementary school.[5] Schodt added that the page layouts used in Astro Boy episodes "became more creative."[5] When designing supporting characters, Tezuka sometimes placed homages of Walt Disney, Max Fleischer, and other American animators. In several of the Astro Boy stories, the first few pages of each one were in color.[5] Tezuka had a "Star System" of characters where different characters appeared ; several characters in Astro Boy appear in other works written by Tezuka. Schodt explained that Tezuka developed "a type of dialog with his readers" since he developed so many stories during his lifetime.[6] Tezuka often had a habit of introducing nonsensical characters at random moments in order to lighten a scene that he believed was becoming too serious. Tezuka sometimes felt trapped by the need to satisfy the young male audience's desire to see battling robots.[6]

Tezuka used Astro Boy to imagine, in a 1950s perspective described by Schodt as "analog," a world where man and advanced technology coexist and the issues stemming from this fact. At the time Japan did not have a reputation for science and technology that it had gained by 2002.[6]

The collection that was originally issued by Akita Shoten under its Sunday Comics imprint had 23 volumes of paperbacks. The stories do not appear in order by the date of creation. Instead they appear in the order that Tezuka and the collection editors believed was the most appropriate. The collection begins with "The Birth of Astro Boy," an episode which Tezuka wrote in 1975 to make the collection of stories easier to understand. The first Astro Boy story ever written, first published in April 1951, is in Volume 15. Osamu Tezuka often re-drew chapters he had created earlier. Schodt explains that therefore, when comparing two episodes written at the same time, one may appear "more modern" than another because Tezuka revised the art. For many of his older stories, Tezuka often added introductory pages in which he himself was portrayed as the interlocutor. The color pages of the Astro Boy stories were re-printed in monochrome for the inexpensive paperback versions.[5]
English-language version

The English-language version of Astro Boy is an adaptation of the Akita Shoten collection.[5] The artwork was flipped so the books would read left to right, as how the English language reads.[7] Frederik L. Schodt wrote the English-language version of Astro Boy. For most characters he used the original Japanese names. The story was set in Japan with Japanese characters and Schodt believed that it was necessary to retain the Japanese names whenever possible. Schodt translated the nickname "Higeoyaji" to "Mr. Mustachio," as it is a nickname. Schodt decided to use Astro Boy's English name. He explained that "Astro" is close to the Japanese name, "Atom," an English word. In addition Schodt believed that using "Atom" in an American edition of the story would be "going against too much history." Occasionally names of Japanese characters had double meanings that were impossible to convey in the English-language translation. Schodt decided that keeping the sound of the names was important, especially when the names were famous. In those cases Schodt tried to use the double meaning elsewhere in the translation. When dealing with minor foreign characters with humorous-sounding names, Schodt replaced the names with new English-language names based on English puns wherever he felt it was possible.[6]

The editors of the English-language Astro Boy comic did not remove content that could be perceived to be racially insensitive. Some content in the Astro Boy series depicts foreign people, such as people from Africa and Southeast Asia. The editors of the English volumes explained that in instances the people may be portrayed differently than how they actually were in the year 2002 in real life (the year of publication of the English version). The editors added that some portrayals may show them from an era from a long time in the past, or may show them to be from very undeveloped lands. The editors said that some readers may feel that the portrayals contribute to racial discrimination, especially against people of African descent. The editors explained that while this was not Tezuka's intent, the editors believed that the issue needed to be explained and addressed as some readers may feel demeaned or insulted by the depictions. The editors expressed the belief that it would be inappropriate to revise the works. The editors explained that because Tezuka was dead, there was no way to reverse what he created, and revising his works would violate his right as a creator. The editors expressed the belief that editing or stopping publication of the work would "do little" to end racial and ethnic discrimination throughout the world.[8]
Plot

Astro Boy is a science fiction series set in a futuristic world wherein androids co-exist with humans. Its focus is on the adventures of the titular "Astro Boy" (sometimes called simply "Astro"), a powerful robot created by the head of the Ministry of Science, Doctor Tenma, to replace his son Tobio, who died in a car accident. Dr. Tenma built Astro in Tobio's image and treated him as lovingly as if he were the real Tobio, but soon realized that the little android could not fill the void of his lost son, especially given that Astro could not grow older or express human aesthetics (in one set of panels, Astro is shown preferring the mechanical shapes of cubes over the organic shapes of flowers). In the original 1960 edition, Tenma rejected Astro and sold him to a cruel circus owner, Hamegg.

After some time, Professor Ochanomizu, the new head of the Ministry of Science, noticed Astro Boy performing in the circus and convinced Hamegg to turn Astro over to him. He then took Astro as his own and treated him gently and warmly, becoming his legal guardian. He soon realized that Astro was gifted with superior powers and skills, as well as the ability to experience human emotions.

Astro then is shown fighting crime, evil, and injustice. Most of his enemies were robot-hating humans, robots gone berserk, or alien invaders. Almost every story included a battle involving Astro and other robots.

Surrogates is a 2009 science fiction film, based on the 2005–2006 comic book series of the same name. Directed by Jonathan Mostow, it stars Bruce Willis, and Radha Mitchell. The film revolves around the mysterious murder of a college student linked to the man who helped create a high-tech surrogate phenomenon that allows people to purchase unflawed robotic versions of themselves, being fit and good looking remotely controlled machines that ultimately assume their life roles, enabling people to experience life vicariously from the comfort and safety of their own homes. Surrogates was released on September 25, 2009[4]. Rosamund Pike, James Cromwell, Ving Rhames, and Boris Kodjoe co-star.

In 2017, people live in near-total isolation, rarely leaving the safety and comfort of their homes, thanks to remotely-controlled robotic bodies that serve as "surrogates," designed as better-looking versions of their human operators. Because people are safe all the time, and damage done to a surrogate is not felt by its owner, it is a peaceful world free from fear, pain, and crime.

Agent Tom Greer (Bruce Willis) is an FBI agent who, through the use of his own surrogate, investigates the first murder in years: Jarod Canter, a college student and the son of Dr. Lionel Canter (James Cromwell), the original inventor of surrogates. Jarod, who like his father used multiple surrogates, inexplicably died when his surrogate was destroyed. The case grows more complicated, however, when several police officers are murdered when their surrogates are destroyed.

Greer's investigation leads him to the Dreads, a group of people led by a mysterious man known only as The Prophet (Ving Rhames) who is against the use of surrogates. Greer and his partner Jennifer Peters (Radha Mitchell) determine that the identity of the murderer is a Dread named Miles Strickland. Strickland used a unique weapon called an O.D. (Overload Device) to kill Jarod as well as five police officers tracking him. Greer himself barely escapes death by the weapon. Although his surrogate is physically damaged, it is able to pursue Strickland before it is destroyed by the Dreads.

Suffering damages from the weapon, Greer is found in his apartment by his wife Maggie (Rosamund Pike). She prefers interacting through her surrogate, even with her husband in the privacy of their home. We learn that the couple is particularly distant from each other as they grieve over their young son who died in a car accident. (We see that, from the brief scenes in the film including the real Maggie, she is severely depressed and simultaneously takes many medications.) Greer is taken to the hospital and survives, although he is suspended and will not be provided with another surrogate while his actions are investigated.

At the Dread Reservation, Strickland is approached by The Prophet who demands information about the weapon. Strickland is apparently killed by The Prophet or his followers. When Greer goes into the Reservation, he stumbles upon Strickland's funeral and then approaches The Prophet, asking about the weapon Strickland used. As Greer leaves the Reservation, it is revealed that The Prophet has the weapon. Greer meets with Dr. Canter, again using one of his surrogates, who suggests the weapon was manufactured by the military. Greer meets with a member of the military and learns that the weapon sends a computer virus into the surrogates that shuts them down, but it also disables the fail-safe mechanisms which shield the operator from harm, thus killing them.

A mysterious surrogate goes to the home of Greer's partner Peters and kills her, then transfers control of her surrogate to an unknown party who uses it to go through the financial records of the FBI. Peters' surrogate learns that Andrew Stone (Boris Kodjoe), Peters and Greer's boss, is apparently behind the death of Jarod, having been assigned by the company that creates the surrogates to kill Dr. Canter which he in turn assigned to Strickland. Jarod was using one of his father's surrogates and as such was mistaken for him. At the Dread compound, The Prophet orders delivery of the weapon to Peters just before the military attacks. The Prophet and his men are killed, but The Prophet is revealed to be a surrogate of Doctor Canter. Peters' surrogate tricks Greer into getting information about the weapon from Stone's computer. Peters' surrogate then flees from Greer, taking the information and the weapon. Greer chases her, but she escapes and goes to FBI headquarters where she takes a human system administrator (who does not use a surrogate) hostage and hooks the weapon up the surrogate network to kill all the surrogate operators.

Greer calls the system administrator who reveals that Peters has taken him hostage. Greer heads to Canter's home and forces his way in. At the FBI building, Peters' surrogate, now revealed to be controlled by Canter, confronts Stone's surrogate. Stone confirms he did try to have Canter assassinated. Canter uses the weapon to destroy Stone's surrogate and kill Stone for killing his son. He then returns to uploading the weapon's virus to all the surrogates, which will destroy them and kill their operators. Greer makes his way through Canter's mansion and finds Canter, who then reveals he wants to destroy the surrogates and the people who use them. Canter expresses anger and regret over the fact that his original purpose for inventing surrogates has been hijacked by VSI in the name of profit and by the masses for their own selfish reasons. Being a paraplegic, his vision was to give physically disabled individuals a chance at experiencing what they do not have. Canter has already started the destruction process through Peters' surrogate, and then kills himself via a cyanide pill.

Greer takes control of Peters' surrogate. With the assistance of the system administrator, Greer insulates the surrogate operators so they will survive even if the surrogates go down. He is then given the choice of whether or not to save the surrogates. FBI agents storm the room as Greer decides not to cancel the transmission. The virus from the weapon uploads and permanently shuts down every surrogate worldwide, leaving their operators alive, but having to go back to using their real bodies again. Greer goes home and meets his wife in her real body. Media broadcasts reveal the surrogates are down worldwide and no one knows if they will ever be able to be reinstated.

Tells of a group of hamsters are trained to become a secret agent by the government, there are 4 main characters in this film that is Darwin's (Sam Rockwell) the leader, Blaster (Tracy Morgan) weapons expert, Juarez (Penelope Cruz) sexy martial arts expert and Speckles (Nicholas Cage) and a computer expert information center. Equipped with super-sophisticated weapons, their main task is, to stop a millionaire Leonard Saber (Bill Nighy) who wants to rule the world. Unfortunately, before this mission successfully, they are removed from the task of a secret agent and returned to the pet store. Then, how the fate of this gang of four? G-Force is a 2009 spy-fi comedy film produced by Jerry Bruckheimer for Walt Disney Pictures in Disney Digital 3-D. Written by Cormac and Marianne Wibberley, the film is the directorial debut of Hoyt Yeatman, whose earlier work includes in the area of visual effects. Yeatman has previously worked with Bruckheimer on a number of films, including The Rock, Armageddon, and Kangaroo Jack. [4] It was released in the US on July 24, 2009 and reached #1 in the box office with 30 million.[5]

This is the first live-action Disney film to be produced in Disney Digital 3-D, not including two concert films, Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert and Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience. The film was shown in competing 3-D technologies like Dolby 3D[6] and RealD Cinema[7].

This is also Jerry Bruckheimer's first 3-D film.

The film revolves around an special FBI organization of trained secret agent animals, equipped with advanced tools including an advanced earpiece that allows the mammalian members to talk to humans. In addition to a team of cockroaches, the primary field team consists of guinea pigs Darwin (Sam Rockwell) (team leader), Juarez (Penelope Cruz) (martial arts), Blaster (Tracy Morgan) (weapons/transportation), star-nosed mole Speckles (Nicolas Cage) (cyber intelligence), and fly Mooch (reconnaissance) (Dee Bradley Baker). Hoping to impress his superiors on the eve of a budgetary review, the unit's leader, Ben (Zach Galifinakis), orders an unauthorized infiltration of the residence of home electronics and appliances magnate, Leonard Saber, who has been under FBI investigation for years. The team is able to successfully retrieve considerable sensitive information about a sinister scheme that is set to occur in 29 hours. However, when Ben's superior arrives for his evaluation, his astonishment at the team's capabilities and technology is overcome by his indignation at Ben's unauthorized mission and the fact that the downloaded intelligence appears to be useless information about Saber's coffee makers. As a result, the government agent orders the unit shut down, the equipment seized and the animals to be used as experimental subjects to be killed as security risks. With the help of their human compatriots, Darwin, Juarez, Blaster, Mooch, and Speckles escape with hopes of stopping Saber's scheme, but find themselves in a pet carrying case bound for a pet shop.

Now trapped in the store's pet rodent display case, G-Force meets Hurley (Jon Favreau), a gluttonous guinea pig, Bucky (Steve Buscemi) an irascible hamster and three sycophantic mice. Although Blaster and Juarez manage to get themselves sold to a family with plans to return to extract their comrades, Speckles' own attempt to escape by playing dead ends disastrously when he is thrown into and apparently crushed in a garbage truck. Meanwhile, Mooch manages to return to Ben to tell him where his mammalian agents are, but Darwin escapes (with Hurley, who is convinced that Darwin is his brother, tagging along) before he can arrive to collect them.

While Blaster and Juarez escape their new owners to return to Ben, he and his partner discover that the discredited intel has a destructive computer function that apparently hid the scheme. At this time, Darwin and Hurley make their own way to their superior. On route, Darwin sees a Saber coffeemaker and decides to investigate it, but his examination of the machine makes it come alive as a dangerous fighting robot that he and Hurley are barely able to defeat. Now with his suspicions vindicated, Darwin and Hurley transport the wreckage to Ben. However, upon arrival, Ben has lost all confidence in his team and confesses the shattering information that they are not special genetically enhanced animals as previously told, but ordinary ones Ben took in and trained for the team. However, Hurley lifts them from their despair by reminding the team of the astounding feats he has seen them do and the fact that they obviously made themselves extraordinary on their own.

Emboldened but with little time to stop the scheme, Ben provides the field team with the means to infiltrate the Saber residence and plant a virus in the computer mainframe. Unfortunately, FBI agents are ordered to capture the animals dead or alive, forcing the team to elude them with an extended pursuit thanks to a high speed vehicle especially designed for them. After that is accomplished and the team infiltrates Saber's mainframe, the plan is put into motion, and the resulting battle separates the group, only leaving Darwin to take the mainframe down. At the same time, Leonard Saber is shocked to discover that his appliances have become killing machines, expecting them to simply be able to effectively communicate with each other, while FBI takes advantage of this obvious pretext to finally openly move against the industrialist. When Darwin reaches the mainframe, he finds out that Speckles, whose home and family had been destroyed by humans, is the mastermind of the plan, whose masterstroke is to cause a massive planetwide bombardment of space junk pulled from orbit to make the planet surface uninhabitable. Speckles promptly amalgamates the various appliances in the vicinity into a giant walking being, which, combined with a localized bombardment of orbital debris, soon overpowers the police forces gathered at the mansion. Darwin manages to persuade Speckles that his new family is with the rest of the team and Ben, who had taken them all in. Speckles consents, and tries to shut it down, but realizes that it has gone too far. However, Darwin uses the computer virus on his PDA to take it down.

At the end of the film, the guinea pigs are personally commended by the FBI Director who also appoints them special agents of the FBI. Furthermore, G-Force is reinstated as a unit of the Bureau and expanded with Hurley, Bucky and the mice inducted as new recruits. Meanwhile, Saber makes the largest product recall in history, and Speckles is given the punitive duty of personally removing the malicious chips from all Saber products, which number in the tens of thousands.

The Ugly Truth is a 2009 American romantic comedy film starring Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler. The film was released in North America on July 24, 2009.

Abby Richter (Katherine Heigl) is a morning show TV producer in Sacramento, California. Coming home from a disastrous date one night, she happens to see a segment of a local television show, "The Ugly Truth", run by Mike Chadway (Gerard Butler), whose cynicism about relationships prompts Abby to call into the show to argue with him on-air. The next day, she discovers that the station is threatening to cancel her show because of its poor ratings, and the station owner has hired Mike to do a segment on her show to bring them back up.

At first, the two have a rocky relationship; Abby thinks Mike is crass and disgusting while Mike finds Abby to be a control freak. Nevertheless, when she meets the man of her dreams, a doctor named Colin (Eric Winter) living next to her, Mike persuades her to follow his lead. She agrees to his helpful advice and if he can get her the man she wants, proving his theories on relationships, she will work happily with him, but if Mike fails, he agrees to quit.[2]

Mike succeeds in improving the ratings of the show, helps bring the married co-anchors closer together, and successfully guides Abby to be exactly what Colin would want. Mike is invited to appear on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and is being offered the chance to move to another network. Abby is forced to cancel a romantic weekend away with Colin, during which they had planned to finally sleep together, and instead go with Mike and persuade him to stay with the morning show. After the show, they go for drinks and dancing, and Mike admits he doesn't want to move and is happier to stay in Sacramento with his sister and nephew. In the elevator, they passionately kiss and almost get to the point of intense sex but leave for their separate rooms when the doors open. Mike, dealing with his inner conflict of the intensity of his feelings for Abby, calls on her room only to find Colin has shown up to surprise her. He leaves Abby to be with Colin. Abby is upset and soon realizes Colin only likes the woman she has been pretending to be, not the real her, and she breaks up with him.

Mike leaves for another local station, but ends up doing an outside broadcast at the same hot-air balloon festival as Abby, and he cannot resist returning to argue with her when she kicks the new "Mike Chadway" imitator off the air and goes into a tirade about men. The balloon they are standing in takes off while they argue and finally, Abby tells Mike she broke up with Colin, and Mike admits he loves her. Abby then kisses him and they are shown kissing passionately while flying off in the balloon. Despite their obvious differences, they stay together and at the end of the movie, are shown having intense sex. Mike, unsure of whether he's taught Abby how to fake too well, asks if her response at climax was genuine after the lights are switched on. Abby responds by smiling and saying he'll never know before shutting off the lights again.

2012 is a disaster movie in 2009 directed by Roland Emmerich. This film has ensemble cast, including John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Danny Glover, Thandie Newton, Oliver Platt, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Woody Harrelson. The film will be distributed by Columbia Pictures. Filming began in August 2008 in Vancouver.

The film was inspired by the idea of a global doomsday events that coincide with the end of the round Mayan Long Count calendar on or about December 12, 2012 (Solstice winter northern hemisphere).

Curtis Jackson (John Cusack) is a divorced father who worked side as a limousine driver and a writer, while his ex-wife (Amanda Peet) and her children lived together with her new boyfriend, Gordon (Thomas McCarthy).

In the Maya city of Tikal in Guatemala, victims of mass suicide seemed to believe the Mayan calendar, which predicts the end of the world that coincide with parallel Galaktik, which occurred on December 21, 2012, the date of solstice winter in the northern hemisphere. IHC (Institute for Human Continuity), a secret organization, aware of this situation and begin to build a big ark beneath the Himalayas, which are designed to deal with many natural disasters to save humans, certain species, and treasure the most precious human beings when the end finally happened. There is debate about how and when governments of the world will tell their citizens, and how to choose the people who will be saved from this end. Kennedy to destroy the White House and St. Peter's Basilica in Rome collapsed, killing thousands of people. Another tsunami hit New York City, drowning Statue of Liberty. The U.S. government finally announced the end of the world. Jackson and his family must find a way to China to climb the big ships, because the small plane they were not able to do this trip. As they search for new aircraft, all filled with passengers. However, Gordon relies on one of his old clients, Tamara (Beatrice Rosen). He along with Russian billionaire, Yuri Karpov (Zlatko Buric). This family knows that Yuri had brought the plane to escape to China. Jackson asked to allow his family, but Yuri refused. However, the pilot, Sasha (Johann Urb) told that he needed a kopilotdan Jackson said Gordon is a trained pilot. Their plan is to remove the car from the cargo storage. Gordon had to leave Sasha and ran to the car in time. Sasha landed in a ravine, which then collapsed. Other group members landed safely. Tamara cried and asked that they return to find Sasha. Before they act, the Chinese helicopter carrying large animals flying above them. One helicopter landed, although these groups know that they must pay for the ride. Yuri pay for himself and his son, but refused to pay for someone else. Before entering the helicopter, he told Tamara that he knew his relationship with Sasha.

This group has no option but the way across the mountains to look for other groups. A car passed, Jackson threw a rock at him. The car turned around and allow them to ride passengers. Inside were a Buddhist monk, Nima (Osric Chau), and her grandmother (Lisa Lu). They went to meet with brothers Nima, Tenzin (Chin Han), who had a plan to sneak into the big ship.

After arriving, Tenzin angry. He told Mima that the plan can not involve a lot of people, and others opted not to join. Jackson and Kate insisted on Tenzin that they bring the kids. After a long debate, Tenzin allow all groups to join.

Jackson and his family tried to sneak into the ship with the help of Tenzin. Carl Anheuser (Oliver Platt), Chief of Staff to the President then ordered the gates closed vessel, while the supply is not enough. When the gate is closed, Tenzin legs crushed and Gordon killed. Dr.Adrian Helmsley, scientific adviser to the President (Chiwetel Ejiofor), was shocked and decided to open the gate to the remaining survivors. Wheels of a gate at the boat traffic and will not close, so the gate half open. Ship's engine could not lit except the gates closed. When the tsunami struck the ship, a broken key support structure, and the ship floated towards Mount Everest. Jackson and Noah try to improve the steering wheel and the gate was closed. Machine turned on again to avoid a collision with a mountain. The ship crashed into Mount Everest, but suffered little damage. When the floods recede, the captain decided to Cape of Good Hope in South Africa as a new land suitable for the survivors.

Directed by Roland Emmerich and composer Harald Kloser-producer speculative writing titled 2012, which are marketed to major studios in February 2008. Kate (Vera Farmiga) and John Coleman (Peter Sarsgaard) are experiencing strains in their marriage after Kate's third child was stillborn. The loss is particularly hard on Kate, who is still recovering from a drinking habit that cost her her job. While visiting the local orphanage, they decide to adopt Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman), a 9-year-old Russian girl. While Kate and John's daughter Maxine (Aryana Engineer), who is deaf and communicates with sign language, embraces Esther almost immediately, their son Daniel (Jimmy Bennett) is somewhat less welcoming.

Kate grows suspicious when Esther, who watched Kate and John have sex, expresses far more knowledge of sex and its slang than would be expected for a child her age. Not long after Esther arrives, she pushes a schoolmate, who had picked on her, off a playground slide, breaking her ankle. Max saw Esther shove the girl, but covers for Esther by saying that the girl "slipped." At dinner Daniel is mad and annoyed at Esther, and lets it be known he doesn't consider her to be his sister.

Kate is further alarmed when Sister Abigail (CCH Pounder), the head of the orphanage, warns her and John about Esther's tendency to be around when things go wrong. Esther overhears this and later kills Sister Abigail by bludgeoning her with a hammer. She forces Max to help her hide the body and the hammer. Daniel sees Esther and Max descending from his treehouse from behind a rock, not knowing they hid the hammer there. Later that night, Esther threatens to kill Daniel, or at the very least subject him to genital mutilation, if he tells anyone what he saw.

Kate is told that the Russian orphanage Esther came from has no record of her ever being there. However, John does not believe her, despite continued ominous behavior by Esther. At one point, Esther breaks her own arm in John's vise and convinces John that Kate broke it after Esther desecrated the garden grave site of her stillborn child's ashes. When John suggests that Kate spend the night downstairs while Esther stays in the master bedroom, Kate drives out and purchases two bottles of wine. After a struggle, she pours the opened bottle of wine down the drain. On Esther's first day back at school, she slips Kate's SUV into neutral, nearly killing Max. Afterward, John and Kate's psychiatrist confront her with the unopened bottle which Esther had found. They blame the accident on her carelessness because of her hangover.

Kate learns that Esther was housed at a mental institution in Estonia called the Saarne Institute, but when she expresses misgivings to John, he and her counselor thinks that Kate is relapsing into her drinking habit. After John produces the other bottle Kate bought the night before, he threatens to leave her unless she gets help.

Daniel learns of the hammer from Max and decides to get it and go to the police. However, Esther sets the treehouse on fire, intending to get rid of the evidence and kill Daniel. Daniel escapes by falling out of the tree, severely injuring his neck and knocking him unconscious. Esther tries to finish him off by smashing a brick over his head, but Max shoves her out of the way just in time. Esther again tries to kill him at the hospital by unhooking his respirator and attempting to smother him with a pillow, placing him in a near-fatal coma. Doctors rush into the room and manage to save Daniel. Outside, Kate angrily knocks Esther down, and is subdued and sedated by doctors.

That night, Esther tries to seduce a drunk and dazed John, who had drunk Kate's last bottle. John realizes Kate was telling the truth all along and threatens to call the orphanage about her, telling her to stop her behavior and go to her room. Esther goes upstairs, holding back tears until she reaches her room, then submits to a deep heartbroken crying spell before losing her temper and tearing up her room in a rage. John goes up later to comfort her and discovers her disturbing artwork in her dark, now-ransacked and empty room; shortly thereafter the electricity is shut off. When he goes downstairs to investigate, Esther (who switched off the electricity) catches him from behind and stabs him several times, leaving him for dead when she spots Max watching at the top of the stairs.

As Kate is coming out of sedation, she gets a call from the Saarne Institute's director, Dr. Värava (Karel Roden), who reveals a terrifying secret. It turns out that Esther isn't a 9-year-old girl at all, but a 33-year-old woman named Leena Klammer. She has hypopituitarism, a disorder that stunted her physical growth and has spent most of her life as a serial killer posing as a little girl (in the original script, she was the victim of terrible rape and abuse by her father who later abandoned her on the claim she could never be a real woman and, ultimately became the first person she killed. This however, was left out of the movie). Leena has made a habit of moving into families as an adopted "child" and ultimately attempting to seduce the father, whom she kills (along with the rest of the family) after his inevitable rejection. While the audio of Värava and Kate's call is still playing, Esther/Leena sheds her child's clothes to reveal scars on her neck and wrists. They are covered with injuries caused by a straitjacket, which the doctors at a mental home kept her in to keep her from harming them. She also has mostly developed breasts, an adult figure, and dentures to cover her hideous adult teeth.

When Kate gets home, she is finally pushed over the edge after discovering her husband. Kate goes looking for Max and in the process gets shot by Esther/Leena with the revolver she found in the house. Kate finally finds Max while she on top of the roof of their garden, which is a glass. She breaks the glass and falls on top of Esther who was trying to shoot Max. When Esther seemed unconscious Kate takes Max and runs away from the house. When the police arrive, Leena disappears. Leena runs after Kate, trying to kill her and Max with a knife. Their chase takes them to a frozen pond, where Kate and Leena struggle. Max grabs Leena's snubnosed revolver trying to shoot her, but misses, causing the ice to shatter. Leena and Kate fall into the freezing water. Kate crawls out of the hole, followed by Leena. Leena seemingly reverts to her little-girl persona, begging for her life and addressing Kate as her mother--while hiding a knife behind her back. Kate angrily responds that she isn't Leena's mother and violently kicks her in the face. The blow breaks Leena's neck and sends her flying back into the pond. The film ends with Kate, now a widow, and Max leaving the pond.

Then, he realized, that his plans to marry Andrew just to avoid deportation is a big mistake.

Margaret Tate (Sandra Bullock) is the executive editor-in-chief of a book publishing company, Colden Books. All of her workers, including her assistant Andrew Paxton (Ryan Reynolds), strongly dislike her for her bossy, cold demeanor. She fires a senior editor, Bob Spaulding (Aasif Mandvi) because he is unable to get an author named Frank interviewed by Oprah. After learning she is being deported to Canada, she forces Andrew to marry her, as his future is tied to hers. When the government investigates, Mr. Gilbertson (Denis O'Hare) informs them that they will undergo rigorous testing to prove that the marriage is not fraudulent, after being notified by Bob Spaulding that this marriage might be a sham. Andrew grudgingly accepts the proposition of marrying Margaret, under the condition that he is promoted to the position of editor and his manuscript be published. He also forces Margaret to propose nicely to him on her knees in the streets of New York, and to allow him to tell his parents they are getting married.

The two spend the weekend with his parents in Sitka, Alaska in order to sell the lie, where they will be attending the 90th birthday party of Andrew's grandmother (Gammy) (Betty White). Margaret is very unreceptive of Alaska, and is furthermore shocked to learn that Andrew's family owns most of the business in Sitka. They attend a surprise party for them, where Andrew catches up with his ex-girlfriend, Gertrude "Gert" (Malin Akerman). After he is humiliated by his father, Joe Paxton (Craig T. Nelson), Andrew announces that he and Margaret are getting married. They are forced to kiss, and do so passionately, showing the first signs of respect for one another. Andrew's parents then show them their room, and Gammy gives them a special blanket (called baby-maker, which they avoid). Andrew and Margaret sleep separately - Andrew on the floor and Margaret in the bed.

The next morning, Margaret wakes to hear her phone ringing. After waking Andrew with her loud conversation, she goes outside to continue the conversation with Frank; however, the family dog, Kevin (an American Eskimo puppy), follows her out of the house and is swooped up by an eagle. She gets Kevin back, but the eagle instead snatches her phone away. Andrew, after seeing the commotion, informs her that his mother Grace, herself and Gammy are going shopping and sightseeing; the shopping actually proves to be a trip to a male strip show by Ramone (Oscar Nunez).

Margaret talks with Gert about Andrew, who tells her that they dated through college, and when Andrew asked her to elope with him, she didn't want to leave her home, and said no.

Meanwhile, Andrew confronts his father after he apologizes and asks him to take up the family business, telling him he's happy in New York. Margaret comes home and see Andrew venting his anger (after the conversation between him and his Father) by hitting an old wooden canoe agitatedly. She takes a shower, but finds no towels in the bathroom; when she tries to get one from the open wardrobe, she is stopped by Kevin. Andrew goes to the balcony of their room, stripping naked, to take a bath. Margaret, also naked, goes for a towel after distracting Kevin, only to bump into Andrew after slipping while shutting the door close so that Kevin would not escape from the bathroom. He sees her tattoo on her back before going to take a shower. That night, Andrew and Margaret reveal to each other a little about their past, and find out they like the same band. It was revealed here that Margaret was an orphan, and had no siblings.

Next morning, Joe and Grace knock at the door with breakfast. Andrew and Margaret hurriedly get into bed together, and the family suggest they could marry the same weekend, and they reluctantly accept. Andrew is stressed because the marriage is actually a sham, and Margaret tries to comfort and convince him, finding herself genuinely caring for him. To sort out her emotions, she goes for a bike ride into the woods, where she finds Gammy "giving thanks" in a ritual. Gammy invites her to join her, and they end up dancing to "Get Low", while Andrew watches.

Andrew takes her into Sitka to get Margaret's new phone, and she tries to contact New York. However, Gammy and Grace arrive and take Margaret to be fitted into a dress that Gammy's great grandmother made, and a necklace that's been in the Paxton family for generations. Margaret, who was now very touched, decided that she can't do this to Andrew, and she hijacks a boat and tries to explain, but she falls off after he takes the steering wheel (and she cannot swim and almost drowns, but manage to cling onto a floating buoy). Andrew goes back for her, and they return to his house. Once there, they find out Mr. Gilbertson has arrived to check on the couple, after Joe suspected that the marriage was a scam, and that Joe had came down to a deal with Mr. Gilbertson, who persuades them to admit the sham. Andrew vehemently denies and rushes out.

During the wedding ceremony, Margaret decides she cannot do this to Andrew and confesses the business arrangement in front of everyone - including Mr. Gilbertson - who informs her she has twenty four hours to get back to Canada. She returns to New York to pack her things. Andrew rushes to their room only to find she has already left leaving his manuscript with a note of praise from her on the bed. As he rushes out of the house to confront Margaret, another argument arises between Joe and Andrew. Gammy has a heart attack while trying to stop them and while being airlifted to the hospital. She convinces Joe and Andrew to quit arguing before she "passes away". Once they agree, Gammy reveals she had faked it, just so they would stop fighting and try to make it to the plane, to stop Margaret from going back to New York. Andrew attempts to stop Margaret's flight, but cannot do so in time. However, Andrew rushes to New York and shows up at the office before he confesses his love for Margaret in front of the entire office staff, proposing marriage all over again as he "wants to date Margaret". They go to Mr. Gilbertson once more to get engaged, this time "for real".

During the end credits, everyone including Andrew's family and Ramone is being interviewed by Mr. Gilbertson. And it's hinted that Ramone is an illegal immigrant, while Kevin, the dog, still has not gotten used to Margaret's presence.

* Mary Steenburgen as Grace Paxton, Andrew's mother, who accepts Margaret immediately, taking her on a girls' night out, giving breakfast in bed, and making her feel welcome. She also does not like Andrew and Joe fighting, and commands her husband to set things right, which Andrew and Margaret both overhear part of. She and the others convince Andrew to go after Margaret when she confesses the sham.
* Craig T. Nelson as Joe Paxton, Andrew's father who owns the family business that dominates the entire town of Sitka. He wants his son to run the family business when he retires and eventually die, but Andrew wants to be a book editor. Joe brings Mr. Gilbertson in after suspecting the marriage is a sham. He and his son reconcile after Gammy has a heart attack and he realizes that Andrew truly loves Margaret.
* Betty White as Grandma Annie (Gammy), Andrew's grandmother, who turns ninety while Andrew and Margaret are visiting Alaska. She takes an immediate liking to Margaret, convincing her to open up and be comfortable with Andrew's family. Gammy disapproves of Joe and Andrew fighting, and forces them to reconcile after faking a heart attack after Margaret leaves the ceremony, she then convinces Andrew to go after Margaret.
* Denis O'Hare as Mr. Gilbertson, the immigration agent investigating Margaret's case. He believes the marriage is a fake and takes great pleasure in the revelation that it is.
* Oscar Nunez as Ramone, an omnipresent citizen of the Alaska town who holds many jobs. He is seen as a waiter, male stripper, a shopkeeper, and even as a minister. In the end it is suggested he is an illegal immigrant.
* Aasif Mandvi as Bob Spaulding, a senior editor at the book company before Margaret fired him early in the film for not getting an author known as Frank the Oprah spot. He insults her after she leaves his office. He told the INS that the marriage was a fake, as he would have gotten his job back if Tate was deported.

The film was given a wide worldwide release and a limited two-week theatrical run from October 28, to November 12, 2009. Tickets went on sale a month early on September 27, 2009, to satisfy a high anticipated demand; to date, the film has broken numerous records via tickets both pre-sale and sales worldwide.

Since the film's confirmation, AEG Live has faced criticism; mostly consisting of theories that they'd only made the film solely for them to be able to make a profit off Jackson. Multiple members of Jackson's family had confirmed that they didn't support the film and some family members went as far as to try to stop the film agreement in August. The film has also been surrounded by multiple controversies, including allegations regarding the appearance of body doubles in place of Jackson, which Sony denied, and an outrage from Jackson fans; with some going as far as to start a protest against the film. On August 10, 2009, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff approved a deal between Michael Jackson's estate, concert promoter AEG Live, and Sony Pictures. The agreement allowed Sony to edit the hundreds of hours of rehearsal footage needed to create the film. Sony subsequently paid $60 million for the film rights.[7]

The trailer premiered during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards on September 13, 2009,; along with the simultaneous launching of the film's official website.[8] The film was released to mainly positive reviews from both critics and Jackson fans; the film's portrayal of Jackson and his performances were generally praised, while criticism mainly consisted of both critics and fans having felt that the film was made just to profit off Jackson's death and that Jackson wouldn't have wanted the film released because he was a "perfectionist". In the film's opening weekend it grossed over $23 million - in the United States alone - making the film number one at the box office[5] and making it the fifth highest-grossing Halloween debut.[9] With the film's current revenue gross of over $109 million, the film is the highest grossing concert movie in history.[9]

The film opens with a short text introduction stating the purpose of the footage and its intent "For the fans...". After short dialogues from various dancers, Kenny Ortega is heard talking through the original concert opening sequence involving a body suit made from screens which display fast clips and images with bright intensity from which Jackson emerges on stage. Immediately after this, Jackson begins "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" first solo, which pauses half-way through and a small snippet of Jackson singing his song "Speechless" acapella is shown. Jackson is then joined by dancers and completes the first number. A short clip showing rehearsals of the "toaster" mechanism is shown before rehearsal footage of "Jam" is played. This plays directly into the green screen adaption of soldiers dancers for "Bad" which are also used for "They Don't Care About Us" which is shown next. From here, the film shows Michael directing Ortega and his band for his solo rehearsal performance of "Human Nature" which he performs acapella, then acoustic and finally with full band. Green screen rehearsals for the video vignette for "Smooth Criminal" come next, with dress rehearsals of the song following, including parts of the vignette intertwined with the dancing. Jackson is seen next directing his musical team for the cues in his song "The Way You Make Me Feel." Jackson then performs a rehearsal with dancers which he alters and changes as he goes. A small animatic introducing the Jackson 5 is shown afterwards, and Michael then rehearses "I Want You Back", "The Love You Save", "I'll Be There" and "Shake Your Body." Jackson stops only to report problems with his earpiece. After this, Jackson sings with one of his back up singers on his duet song "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" in which he sings at full strength, directing his partner as he goes. The filming for the "Thriller" vignette is then shown with Jackson and Ortega watching with 3D glasses. Jackson is then seen rehearsing "Thriller" with the vignette intertwined like that in "Smooth Criminal."

During the dance sequence, puppets are suspended in the audience aisles while Jackson emerges from a robotic spider originally seen in the vignette. Jackson and Ortega rehearsing the cherry-picker is seen next, along with Jackson rehearsing "Beat It." Jackson creates the ending he wants for the song, a long drum build up in which he tears off his jacket and burns it. Footage of the show's aerialists rehearsing to the instrumental of "Who Is It" is shown next, followed by the Jackson and his band rehearsing "Black or White," in which he allows guitarist Orianthi Panagaris to take center stage to finish with a high guitar rift. The video-sequence for "Earth Song" is shown next, featuring a small girl who wanders through an abundant forest, falls asleep, and wakes up to find the forest destroyed by man. Jackson then performs the song both onstage and using the cherry-picker, with his voice being heard at the end telling of the dangers of Global Warming and the lack of reversible time left. Afterwards, Michael is seen conversing with Ortega, his dancers and band about the shows, trivial dance moves and his hopes for the concert series. He then performs a quick version of his song "Billie Jean" featuring an extra dance sequence. Michael is then seen talking to all crew members and wishing everyone the best for the London performances. At a sound check, Jackson performs "Man In The Mirror" with strong backing vocals. The film ends with Jackson's arms extended on stage and the message: "Michael Jackson King of Pop Love Lives Forever"

The interior of The O2 Arena, where the concerts were set to have been held. Jackson was to perform from July 2009 to March 2010 - which would have been the longest residency at the arena.[10]

On March 5, 2009 at the O2 Arena, Jackson announced that he was to perform 10 concert performances as part of a comeback.[11][12] Jackson suggested possible post-show retirement: "I just wanted to say that these will be my final show performances in London. When I say this is it, it really means this is it."[13] On March 11, two days before pre-sale began, an extra 40 dates, totaling to 50 tour dates, were added to meet high demand—five of these dates were reserved in their entirety for the public sale.[14] Jackson's 50 dates would make the concerts the longest residency at the arena. In May, 2009, the tour was originally set to have begun on July 8, 2009, and finished on March 6, 2010.[15] On May 20, 2009, it was announced that the first concert would be pushed back by five days to July 13, and three other July dates would be rescheduled for March, 2010. AEG Live stated that the delay was necessary because more time was needed to prepare, mainly for dress rehearsals. The revised schedule called for 27 shows between July 13, and September 29, 2009, followed by a three month break, and resuming in 2010, with 23 more shows between January 7, and March 6, 2010.[15]

The This Is It concert tour would have been Jackson's first major performances and series of concerts since the HIStory World Tour that began in 1996 and finished in 1997. In preparation for the concerts, Jackson had been collaborating with multiple well known and high profile figures, such as Kenny Ortega, who would have served as his choreographer;[16] Rushka Bergman who would have served as his personal stylist;[17] and body builder Lou Ferrigno, who would have served as his personal trainer.[18] On June 29, 2009, only days after Jackson's death, AEG Live, the concert's promoter, offered ticket holders two choices - to either get refunded all the money spent of their ticket(s) or to keep the ticket(s) as a 'souvenir' and 'memento' by receiving the printed ticket that Jackson had designed himself.[19]

The album, titled This Is It was released internationally on October 26, and worldwide the following day. The album debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart with the sales of over 373,000 in it's first week of release.[20] The two-disc album features music 'inspired from the documentary of the same name'.[21] Sony said of the albums that: "Disc one will feature the original album masters of some of Michael's biggest hits arranged in the same sequence as they appear in the film" and stated that the "the disc ends with two versions of the 'never-released' 'This Is It' [...] This song is featured in the film's closing sequence and includes backing vocals by Michael [Jackson]'s brothers, the Jacksons."[22] Sony also stated that the second disc will feature "previously unreleased versions" from Jackson's 'catalogue of hits' and that It will also include a spoken word poem entitled "Planet Earth" (which orginally appeared in the liner notes of the Dangerous album) and a 36-page commemorative booklet with "exclusive photos of Michael [Jackson] from his last rehearsal".[23] On October 9, Sony confirmed the songs that will appear on the album.[24][25] A record label source said of This Is It - a song featured on the album: "It (the song) sounds awesome. The size and scope of the orchestra hasn't been seen since Ray Charles recorded Georgia. Everyone expects a huge hit" and described the song as being "set to be a huge hit" but stated of the song's secrecy that "they're worried about it getting out [..] they've hired huge bodyguards to stand by the [music] studio['s] door."[23] Rolling Stone stated that This Is It was recorded during the sessions for Jackson's 1991 album Dangerous.[23]

According to TMZ.com, on September 17, 2009, lawyers for the estate received permission from a probate judge to close the deal with Sony, though neither of them released or disclosed the terms.[26] TMZ.com stated that: "We've learned lawyers for Michael Jackson's estate went to court today and the probate judge gave permission for them to strike a deal with Sony Music for the production and distribution of a soundtrack album in connection with the '[Michael Jackson's] This is It' film release." TMZ.com also stated that Sony and Jackson's estate had reached an agreement." On September 18, 2009 Sony Music confirmed, which TMZ.com had reported the previous day, that they had struck a deal with Jackson's estate to release the a CD soundtrack of the film.[27][28] Jeryll Cohen, an attorney for the special administrators of Jackson's estate, said of the short-timing they had for preparing the soundtrack for its given release date that: “In order for the album to be completed in time to be released simultaneously with the film, Sony Music must begin working on the film's soundtrack album immediately.”[29]

According to the film's director Ortega, Jackson (pictured here in 1984) had wanted to record video footage of him rehearsing for himself - and had no intention of ever releasing it to the public.

The film's director and choregrapher; Ortega stated that the rehearsal footage and concept of making a film to document the preparation of the concerts had come about as "an accident".[30][31] Ortega stated the film was pieced together from "private footage" of Jackson and the concerts crew rehearsing and that before Jackson's death, was never intended to be released to the public, or even in general.[32] "The recordings were made so we could use them, then the tapes were destined for Michael [Jackson]'s private library. They have a real unguarded honesty to them."[32] Ortega stated that he had gotten the idea to use the rehearsal footage from Jackson's fans after his death: "At first I got so many messages from fans around the world asking to see the shows, asking to see the footage and eventually I realised the journey wasn't over and we had to do this," and Ortega also stated that the film was made only for the Jackson fans: "[The film] is for the fans and the film will show the development and intentions of the show, and the concert as it moved closer to London."[32]

On August 10, 2009, Mitchell Beckloff, who is a Superior Court Judge, officially approved the deal between Columbia Pictures (film distributor) and AEG Live (the concerts promoter) for Columbia to be able to purchase and distribute rehearsal footage of Jackson and the rehearsal crew for the film.[33][34] The deal also included a merchandising agreement with Bravado International Group - the company is a division of Universal Music Group that is owned by Vivendi - so that they can distribute and and sell "Jackson-themed products".[35] Columbia had reportedly paid 60 million (£35 million) for rights to the rehearsal footage in court documents that were filed.[36] The papers filed had also reportedly stated that Jackson's estate will get 90% of the profits and that AEG will get the remaining 10% from the film's revenue. In the agreement, Columbia and AEG Live both agreed in the deal that the final version of the film should be no longer than 150 minutes (2 hours and 30 minutes), and that the film must attain a PG rating.[35] The contract also stated that the film is not allowed to show footage of Jackson that shows him in a negative way, stating that: "Footage that paints Jackson in a bad light will not be permitted and "Under the terms of the proposed contract, the film will have to be screened for Jackson’s estate and cannot include any footage that puts the superstar in a bad light."[36] AEG stated that they'd had given Columbia over "100 hours of footage of preparations and rehearsals for the shows" as part of the deal."" The court papers stated that in order for the film to be released to the public the final version of the film must be screened to representatives for Jackson's Estate[37] no later than October 2, 2009.

On September 9, the film's official theatrical movie poster was released. On September 10, 2009, it was reported that MTV's Video Music Awards's, which at the time had already announced that they would honor Jackson at the show would premiere the film's first, and only known, trailer.[38] The trailer premiered, as scheduled, right before the end of the VMAs show.[39] The show was watched by a total of 9 million people; a 17% increase over 2008's show and the biggest ratings since the 2004 award show.[40] On September 13, 2009, it was reported that a "secret Michael Jackson [promotional music] single is being produced" to promote the film, at which the film would have, at the time, been released the following month.[41] It was reported that Jackson had recorded the song for release with his planned summer tour but after his death it was shelved until producers in Los Angeles remixed the vocals with an orchestral accompaniment.[42]

On September 23, 2009, it was reported that the film's new song This Is It will be released on October 12, 2009; sixteen days before the film's release.[42][43][44] On October 9, it was confirmed that the song will debut online Monday at midnight - the song, will get its world premiere on MichaelJackson.com.[45] On September 21, 2009, Sony released a 45-second clip of Jackson rehearsing his performance for "Human Nature" and also released stills from the video clip.[46][47] On October 5, 2009 Youtube.com which receives over 1 billion page views daily, advertised the film on their websites homepage.[48] On October 9, 2009, IMDb.com which receives 57 million page views monthly, and MTV.com advertised the film their website.[49][50] As part of print marketing for the film Entertainment Weekly magazine did a cover story of the film for the magazine's October 16, 2009, issue, to collide with the films release for that same month.[51][52] Also as part of promotion for the film, Entertainment Weekly released 8 "never before seen" movie stills from the film.[53] On October 21, a clip of Jackson rehearsing The Way You Make Me Feel was released.[54] On October 21, a 2 minute featurette of the film was released.[55]
Before the film's official theatrical poster was released on September 9, 2009, - Sony had at the time been using this logo (above) as a promotional and marketing tool for the film.

In September 2009, Sony launched "This-Is-It-Fans.com", which allows fans to sign up for an 'alert' so that they can be able to take part in 'Michael Jackson’s This Is It mosaic', in which fans can upload photos to the website, beginning from September 21, to September 30, and the completed mosaic will be posted online on October 22; six days before the film's release.[56] On September 24, 2009, MTV announced, after the success the project proved with New Moon, that they will allow MTV registered users, to "watch and comment on any scene" in the film's already released trailer." MTV described the project as "essentially [being] an in-video graphical overlay that allows users to comment on the video as it plays and review comments from other users.[57] MTV stated that: "the doodad is back and this time we're launching it for the trailer for 'Michael Jackson's This Is It' [...] So here's how it works. Watch the [film's] video [trailer]. When it reaches a point that you'd like to comment on, click the Share button. From there you'll be asked to sign into your preferred social network, Facebook or Twitter, and make your comment. Whenever anyone watches the video thereafter, your words will be pegged to that timestamp in the video."[57]

On September 21, 2009, it was reported that there were three ways to obtain tickets to the film goes on sale starting September 27. The three options for obtaining tickets were to get them at the box office;[58] through the film's official Sony website (This-Is-It-Movie.com);[59] or through the film's official ticket site (This-Is-It-Tickets.com).[60] It was also reported that fans have the option of signing up for an 'alert' when tickets go on sale by a movie theatre in their area by going to "Tickets" section on This-Is-It.com.[61] Fandango.com, who are a movie theater ticket distributor, stated that tickets will be available for purchase starting as 12:01 am on Sunday, September 27, and stated that they'll continue to sell tickets for as long as they last.[62] MTV.com stated that the are no internet sales of the tickets to the first screening - meaning that the only way to obtain tickets to the first screening are only available via the box office.[63]

On September 25, 2009, lines opened at the courtyard outside the Nokia Theatre's L.A. Live complex in downtown Los Angeles. Dozens of people were waiting in line to purchase tickets three days before tickets went on sale through the box office."" Though The Insider.com stated that there were 'crowds' of people starting as early as September 24, 2009 afternoon.[64] Tickets for the advance shows are scheduled to go on sale Saturday midnight/early Sunday morning, meaning that people already in line would have to 'spend days' (over 48 hours)."" The L.A. Live complex; allowed people waiting in line the opportunity to bring chairs - one per person - and umbrellas due to the 'long wait ahead of them.'[64] AEG, which operates the L.A. Live complex stated that "no tents, alcohol, cooking or boom boxes were permitted in line" and set-up onsite monitors - that would issue 'passes for restroom and food breaks.'[65]

It was reported that the "first 500 fans in line have been promised commemorative lenticular tickets designed by Jackson for the London concerts at the O2 Arena", the only other way to obtain those specialized tickets was to trade-in your concert tickets to the now-canceled tour.[66] MTV.com also stated that: "Fans in line are also eligible to receive commemorative 'Michael Jackson's This Is It' T-shirts and posters [...] They're also being invited to sign the memorial wall set up outside the theater, which is open for anyone who wants to leave a message or memory for the late King of Pop."[66] A reported total of 3,000 movie tickets will be available for the early screening of the film on October 27, 2009, at the L.A. Live's new Regal Cinemas Stadium 14, marking it the movie theater's grand opening. It's the only screening location offering the advance shows and commemorative tickets.[67] Musician, James Bourne stated that he had waited over "50 hours" in line and that after he'd purchased his tickets he had received "wrist bands" as 'proof of purchase'.[68] Jeff Labrecque, a writer for EntertainmentWeekly.com said of enthusiasm that Jackson's fans have for the movie to wait in line for days that: "Three months after Michael Jackson’s death, I’m still surprised by the passion of his fans."[69] Bridget Daly, a writer for Hollyscoop.com said of dedication Jackson's fans have for him, to have to go through just to watch a screening of a film: "This is all so serious! Can you imagine those poor Michael Jackson fans who will have to stay up all night for a screening at 4AM? But it’s for Michael Jackson, so we can expect nothing less.!"[70]

On September 27, the first day of ticket sales, all 3,000 tickets to the advanced screenings of the film had "sold out within two hours [on] early Sunday [September 27, 2009]." Fans had reportedly waited in line for days.[71][72][73] CinemaBlend.com reported that over 160 showings had sold out.[74] Reuters.com, stated that "hundreds of screenings in North America have already sold out, a month before the film's October 28 opening."[75] According to MovieTickets.com, sales of tickets to the film have "accounted for more than 82 percent of all the tickets sold at the site today [Monday, September 28, 2009]." CinemaBlend.com described the sale of tickets on MovieTickets.com as being "fairly significant" - but remarked that "this is after all, just a concert documentary." It was reported that over 80 percent of tickets sold on Fandango.com were for this film.[76] It was also reported that the film had "accounted for some 80% of all online ticketing in the U.S. within its first 24 hours of sales, dominating presales compared with such upcoming titles as Avatar and The Twilight Saga: New Moon.[77] Sony, confirmed that over 30,000 tickets were sold in the first 24 hours that tickets went of sale.[78][79] Sony also stated - as of September 28, - that the film's 'moved' over 1 million dollars in tickets sales in Japan.[79] Sony announced in a press release that in the "last 24 hours [since September 27]", that over 80% of all Fandango.com and Movietickets.com sales for the film, had already sold out in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston, Nashville and New York, among others and: "Internationally, exhibitors from London and Sydney to Bangkok and Tokyo have experienced the same epic demand." Sony stated in a statement of the film's good ticket sale's that: "Staggering advance sales were reported in Australia, where tickets for Michael Jackson's This Is It purchased through Village Cinemas exceeded the lifetime pre-sales of such blockbusters as Transformers and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. In Bangkok, Thailand, fans lined up at box office ticket counters throughout the city, and by the end of the first day, all tickets for the first showings across Bangkok were sold out."" On Thursday October 1, 2009, Fadango.com stated the film was the 'top ticket seller' on the site.[80] Both Fandango.com and Movietickets.com are reported that more than 1,600 screenings had already been sold out, via online pre-sales, by October 15.[81] In United Kingdom, Vue Entertainment stated that they'd sold 64,000 tickets in the two-and-a-half weeks since ticket purchasing was made available, while Odeon Cinema stated that they'd had the sales of over 60,000 tickets by October 15.[82]

Then the film scored a $31 million opening weekend, and one week turned into 15. Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus became the top-grossing concert movie of all time. So far. While it's still early, This Is It is on track to top Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus. During its first three days of sales, Fandango said, Jackson's film outpaced Cyrus' first three days by a wide three-to-one margin."[80] Joel Cohen, the executive vice president of MovieTickets.com, said of the ticket sales: "Michael Jackson is such an iconic figure, with a fan base that transcends even some of the most bankable stars in Hollywood [...] We expected there to be a large demand for tickets for an ‘event' film like this one, but MovieTickets.com has never seen such a high volume of sellouts this far in advance for any movie."[83] A spokesperson for Fandango.com, stated that, as of October 4, that: "The [film is the] best-selling concert film of all time. We were expecting a huge rush of ticket sales within the first few days. They are still going strong as of Thursday, fives days in. It shows no sign of abating." Nikki Finke stated that she felt the film "could shatter box-office records" and predicted that they will take in a total of $250 million in its first five days of release alone - which would make it the biggest opening of all time; taking that record from the current title-holder The Dark Knight, which earned $203 million in its first five days of release.[84]

Stuart Boreman, Vue Entertainment's film buying director, stated that the film's sales of over 30,000 tickets in the period of 1 day (24 hours) had broken 'box office records' of having the 'biggest ever one-day sales record' in the United Kingdom, eclipsing advance buying for films such as Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and The Lord of the Rings. Boreman stated: "I've never seen anything like it in the 25 years I have been film buying" and described the film's ticket sales as "a true phenomenon and sales show no sign of slowing down."[85] It was reported that fans had "lined" up at the box office ticket counters throughout the city of Bangkok, Thailand, and that by the end of the first day "all tickets for the first showings across Bangkok were sold out."[79] It was also reported that there were "sell-outs at theaters in France" and that "thousands of fans lined up at The Grand Rex in Paris and quickly bought out the film's first screening there [...] Record-setting sales also were recorded in Germany [...] hundreds of fans lined up outside one theater in Munich at midnight to await the opening of the box office." A German exhibitor said of crowds of people lining up for tickets to the film, that: "Something like this never happened before in Germany.""" Among other countries, "record sales" and "sell-outs" are also being reported in Holland, Sweden, Belgium and New Zealand."[79]

On October 1, 2009, MovieTickets.com said it had already "sold a record of more than 550 sellouts." On October 7, 2009; three weeks prior to the film's release, MovieTickets.com stated that the film had entered their "Top-25 Advance Ticket Sellers of All-Time", bumping The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring from the Number 25 slot.[86] At #25, the film is currently 18 slots away from outselling Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert; which is the highest grossing concert film of all-time.[86] A week before the film was to be released in South Africa it was confirmed that the film had broke multiple pre-sale ticket records for a film release in South Africa.[87] With over 18,000 tickets already sold by October 21, 2009, and "only a few tickets left over" for the film's premiere at 2:00 am premiere on the 28, that is double what the previous record set by Quantum of Solace (2008) had, with, the pre-sales of over 7,500 tickets.[87] By October 27, Kinekor cinemas sold over 24,000 pre-sale tickets in South Africa, tripling the previous pre-sale record.[88]

On September 30; days after tickets went of sale for the film, Regal Entertainment Group confirmed that they would make 25 of their IMAX theater's available for screening's of the film across the country, due to the film's popularity - based on the sales of pre-sale tickets.

Despite the fact that IMAX screenings are usually planned and booked months in advance by the film's movie distributors, Regal Entertainment Group, the nation's largest theater chain, stated on September 30, 2009, that they would screen IMAX versions of the film at their cinemas.[89] Regal stated that they are planning on making 25 of their IMAX locations available for the screening of the film when it opens to the public on October 28, 2009.[89] Dick Westerling, who's the head of marketing and advertising for Regal, said in a statement that: "Michael Jackson's This Is It advance ticket sales are extremely popular at our theatres across the country, so we are pleased to continue this momentum by adding the film in The IMAX Experience at 25 locations."[89] The film's director; Kenny Ortega stated, on his official Twitter page, in response to people questioning whether the film will be in 3-D that: "Heads up, in answer to your question re [sic] Michael Jackson's This Is It, it is NOT in 3D."[90]

IMAX Corporation and Sony stated on, October 26, that the film will open in digital IMAX theatres."" Sony stated that the limited IMAX release will be played domestically during "evening show times" in 96 IMAX digital theatres.[91] In addition, the movie will rplayed in 27 of the company's international digital locations. Sony described the film as having has been: "Digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience with proprietary IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology.[91] A key part of the IMAX DMR process includes re-mastering the soundtrack to take advantage of IMAX's 14,000 watt digital audio system."[91] The film's IMAX screening will sound "10 times more" dynamic range than average systems in regular theatre, it will not have distortion and will have sound quality that "feels more immersive, especially with added acoustic paneling that absorbs sound and removes echo. This unparalleled sound experience combined with IMAX's crystal-clear images and customized theatre geometry create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are actually attending a Michael Jackson performance".[91]
Release schedule

On August 11, 2009, it was widely announced, and later confirmed, that the film would be released to theatres in October 2009, though at the time no specific date was released or confirmed.[92] When confirmed it was reported that the film was set be released worldwide on October 30, 2009.[93] Later in August it was announced that the film's release date was rescheduled two days early for October 28.[94] Sony stated that the film's release date was moved up by two days due to an 'overwhelming demand' for the film."[94] On October 28, 2009, the film will be released United States domestically, Canada, and to various over-seas countries including Australia, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, Finland, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Mexico, Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, United Arab Emirates,[95] and United Kingdom.[96] The following day, on October 29 the film will be released to Greece, Russia, Slovenia, Serbia, South Korea and Turkey.[96] On October 30, the final worldwide start date, the film will be released to Bulgaria, Denmark, Iceland and Sweden.[96] Overseas, Sony's worldwide distribution-marketing topper Jeff Blake said the studio is planning a wide foreign release for the film, with more than 8,500 prints sent out to exhibitors in 75 countries for the October 28, release - along with the 5,000 prints for the domestic launch.[97] Though that's not a high-level opening on the foreign side, in which tentpole releases such as "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" launch with more than 10,000 playdates, but its well above average.[97] The film, will be released in 99 countries on October 28, and later to 110 territories by October 30.[98] On Tuesday October 6, 2009, it was reported and confirmed by a Sony executive, that the film had been chosen to be one of the last of China's "20 annual foreign movie import slots".[99][100][101] China only allows 20 major foreign films to be released in the country every year on a revenue-sharing basis.[101] Chinese censors had reportedly approved the film before the countries weeklong holiday that started on October 1, clearing it in time for the global release date of October 28.[101][102] Li Chow, manger of Sony Pictures Releasing International's stated that Sony will give the movie as wide a release as possible because of Jackson's popularity in China; depending on how many prints they can issue before the film's release on the 28th of that month, Li commented that: "We'll do as many prints as possible. It depends on the labs."[101][103][104]
Early release

On September 21, 2009, it was reported that Sony will 'host' over 25 global premieres of the film, in over 15 different cities around the world, on Tuesday, October 27, 2009, one day before the film will be released to the public.[105][106][107] Sony stated that locations with advanced screening include New York, Rio de Janeiro, London, Berlin and Seoul, though Sony did not release the names of the other cities that will host the 15 'simultaneous screenings', Variety reported there will be premieres in Moscow, Tokyo, Sydney and Paris at a 'later date'.[108] In Canada, an advanced screening was held in Montreal. In the United Kingdom, screening's of the film will be held at London's Leicester Square, and will take place at 1:00 am on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, in order to coincide with the 6:00 pm start time of the 'Los Angeles' premiere October 27, 2009.[105] Following the film's London premiere event, United Kingdom audiences will be able to see the film for the first time starting as early as 4.00 am on Wednesday, October 28, 2009.[105] The film's "grand opening" will be at Regal Cinemas Stadium 14, for the film's opening, the theatre will show the film on all of its 14 screens that night. After the premiere of the film at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, screening's of the film will be followed three hours later in New York, Rio de Janeiro, London, Berlin, Johannesburg, and Seoul.[109] The film's premiere event at the Nokia theater is set to be broadcast via satellite. The film will be released across India with over "150 prints" - cities with tickets available for purchase are Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Bangalore.[110] Jeff Blake, who is a chairman of the film's distributer Sony, said of giving advanced screening of the film worldwide-a day before its public release in a statement: “Michael Jackson has an army of fans everywhere around the world [...] By rolling out this film with simultaneous premieres and special advance screenings on October 27th, [2009] we are giving audiences an incredible opportunity to join together in celebration of Michael Jackson’s incredible career.”[108][111] Sony decided it to run in Japan for additional two weeks [112].
Home media

Sony stated that they'd hoped to have had released the film on DVD/Blu-ray by Christmas - to capitalize the holiday shopping season, but overall chose to reschedule the release day. Sony stated that the DVD is expected to come out in late January or early February of 2010.[113] Sony which usually wait 90 (three months) to 120 days (four months) stated that, when they'd planned on releasing the film in December, that they had tried to persuade theater operators to make an exception for the film due to it having a limited theatrical release, Blake stated that: "We [Sony Pictures Entertainment] felt we made a pretty good case as to why this movie was different".[113] John Fithian, president of the National Assn. of Theatre Owners stated that "We['ve] had several conversations with Sony and so did our members [...] Anytime we see the window go under three months, we alert our members and raise concerns with the studios."[113] Fithian stated that after hearing "complaints" from exectutives of the company, he'd "raised a general concern with Sony" about the short gap between the film's release and the DVD release, soon after Sony, agreed to release the DVD later "to preserve good relations with them".[113]
Controversies
AEG Live criticism

In September 2009, AEG, stated that based on the positive enthusiasm by fans for waiting in lines for days for tickets to the film, that they'd hoped that it was a sign that the public hadn't felt that they were exploiting Jackson after his death.[114] Tim Leiweke, the president of AEG, stated that he hoped that the film would give fans some peace of mind that as a company, Jackson's 'legacy' and well being was always a priority and the fact that people had thought otherwise had really "hurt" people at AEG.[114] Leiweke stated: "Some of the things that people have said about us, which are so untrue, this movie's going to restore his legacy, and prove that we, in fact, gave Michael a second chance here. And an opportunity to make the kind of comeback he was dreaming of. And that we created an environment for him that was probably the best environment that the guy had the last 10 or 15 years of his life. And I'm very proud of the way we treated Michael, and very proud of the partnership that we had with him. And this movie is an opportunity to celebrate that, and we could get past all of the gossip and all of the innuendo."[114] Multiple members of Jackson's family had opposed the film from the start of the film's confirmation in August 2009.[115] According to TMZ Jackson's nephews had tried to go to court to try to stop the film negotiation's between AEG Live and Sony.[115] Jackson's older sister Latoya stated that she felt that Michael wouldn't have wanted the film to have been released because he wasn't giving his all into his performances. "Michael [Jackson] always wants to give his best. This is a rehearsal. He wasn’t giving his all [...] He loves to give his all always. That’s just the way he is. He wants people to see him at the top of the ladder and not half-stepping because he doesn’t want to do a full-out rehearsal."[116] Jackson's mother, Katherine stated that she cannot watch the film, still under grief by Jackson's death, but hopes to watch it "another time".[117] Despite members of the Jackson family opposing the film, Sony confirmed that they had given the entire family 60 premiere tickets to the film.[118]
Body double allegations

In October 2009, Jackson's father, Joe stated and had strongly insisted that the film "is mostly body doubles" and that "the media is going to tear this movie apart" because of it.[115] TMZ stated that members of the Jackson family had felt that footage of "Jackson" in the film wasn't him - but rather body double(s).[119] On October 27, 2009 - the day before the film's release, Sony released a statement denying rumors that the film had rehearsal footage of Jackson body doubles. "This story is pure garbage and there are no body doubles. [...] Audiences will begin to see the film tomorrow [October 28, 2009] and every time they see The King of Pop they will know that every frame is unquestionably Michael [Jackson] as he rehearses and prepares for the London concerts that were to have begun this past summer."[119]
Protest

At the time of Jackson's death, and in the aftermath of it, multiple reports surfaced that AEG Live purposely tried to hide Michael Jackson's health concerns during preparations for his would have been concerts. Concerns included Jackson's frail appearance due to lack of eating that had reportedly caused Jackson to be unable to perform from lack of strength[120] and that AEG had used body doubles in rehearsals to stand in for Jackson.[115] After Jackson's death, AEG stated that there was no truth to any of the rumors and that Jackson was thin but in good enough condition to perform.[121] On October 23, days before the film's release, fans of Jackson launched a protest campaign against the film entitled "This Is NOT It".[122][123] The campaign's focus was to convince people that Jackson's health was neglected by AEG, among others, and that AEG was partly responsible for Jackson's death and now the company is making a profit off Jackson's death.[124] The group started a website and created their own 'trailer' for the movie to showcase their point-of-view on the documentary.[124] The protesters stated: “In the weeks leading up to Michael Jackson’s death, while this footage was being shot, people around him knew that he looked like he might be dying. Those who stood to make a profit chose to ignore it. Friends and fans who had no financial interest, chose to address it and attempted to help him. AEG, the promoters for This Is It, ignored the signs, ignored the pleas, and in fact, actively covered up the truth. What you will see on that screen is part of that cover up.”[124][123] The protestors also inaccurately claimed that Jackson was 108 pounds (49 kg) at his death, contradicting Jackson's autopsy, which had stated that Jackson weighted 136 (61 kg).[125] Shortly after the protest became news, The Guardian conducted a poll on their website asking users "What do you think of Michael Jackson's posthumous film Is This It?", 50% agreed with one of the two options: "I agree with the fans who are boycotting it - it's shameless profiteering".[126]
Reception
Ratings

As of October 30, 2009, on the website Rotten Tomatoes, a review aggregator, the film currently has a rating of 87% - overall giving the film a "fresh" (positive) review.[127] The film was rated, on average, as a 7.1/10 and received a review of 80% based on 137 reviews - 111 were positive, giving it the rating of "the cream of the crop"; while 26 were negative, rating the film as being "rotten".[127] Based on 4,895 user ratings (votes), IMDb.com gave the film a rating of 7.6 on a scale of 1 (the lowest) to 10 (the best).[128] In the film's conducted ratings, it showed that the film garnered positive ratings more by, females than by males (8.9 compared to 7.4); results showed that the film was more liked by non-US users than by US users (7.9 compared to 7.0) and was more liked by people within the age group of people under ages 18 to 29 (8.1), and the age group of the of age 18 to 29 (8.0), than age's 30 to 44 (6.6) or 45 or older (5.8).[128] Film currently has the rating of four out of five stars on AllMovie.com.[129] Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, reported that reviews were "generally favorable", with an average rating of 67 based on 31 reviews, the film garnered a more positive user rating; compared to ratings from critics, with a rating of 7.8 out of 10, based on 50 votes.[130] The film currently has garnered an "average rating" of four out of five star rating by users on Moviefone.com.[131] On YahooMovies.com the film currently has the rating of B+ on a scale of A+ to F- based on 12 reviews by critics and a rating of A by users based on 3,394 votes.[132] In a week-long online survey conducted by Fandango.com, Fandango reported that the film's survey showed that; moviegoers interested in seeing the film were Jackson fans (43%), that movie goers were particularly more interested in Jackson’s work since his death (48%), and that moviegoers had sampled one or more songs from the film's album that was already released before the film's release (60%).[133] On BoxOfficeMojo.com, which rates film's - based on user voting - on a scale of A to F received the "grade" B, based on 345 votes.[5]
Critical response

Roger Ebert, of Chicago Sun Times described the film as being an "extraordinary documentary", and stated that the film was "nothing at all like what" he was expecting to see.[134] Ebert tore apart rumors that were raised by media outlets stating that Jackson was in poor health and was underperforming stating that the film didn't show a "sick and drugged man forcing himself through grueling rehearsals, but a spirit embodied by music" and referred to Jackson's rehearsal performance(s) as having been "something else".[134] Kirt Honeycutt of The Hollywood Reporter praised the film for "it's a strange yet strangely beguiling film that captures one of pop culture's great entertainers in the feverish grips of pure creativity" and stated that film presents that audience with a screen filled with everyone ranging from performers, musicians, choreographers, crew members, craftsmen, and took notice that the film had a primaril focus of Jackson.[135] Honeycutt perceived based on what he'd seen from the behind-the-scenes look of rehearsals that he understood what it takes to "attain such dizzying heights in entertainment" and that he understood why Jackson "chose to stay away" from performing "for a decade" and, based on what he saw from footage from rehearsals that it "looks like the world has missed one helluva concert".[135] Honeycutt cited that the only thing that frustrated him more than knowing the "tragedy" that prevented the concert from happening was "not knowing what you're looking at" and praised the film for having not having felt like a complete concert film because it had a grip on the audience, stating: "Where are Jackson and his conspirators at any given moment in the creative process? The film tries to be a concert film without having the actual footage. So when everything comes to a halt, audiences get thrown."[135] Peter Travers, of Rolling Stone described watching Jackson's "struggle" as being "illuminating, unnerving and unforgettable" and felt that the film was a great "transcendent tribute" to Jackson because it didn't have, nor need, a "safety net".[136]
"More important, however, is that we rarely witness Jackson giving 100%: He frequently comments that he is saving his voice and body for the actual performances. Jackson certainly can’t be faulted for this, but it’s questionable whether he would really want his fans to see him thus. Don’t get me wrong: 60% of Michael Jackson is still a pretty good thing [...] [Jackson] the noted perfectionist, at work, correcting others’ dance moves without missing a beat himself and giving notes, sometimes revelatory and other times inscrutable, to his music director and others"

Joshua Rothkopf of Times of New York referred to being a "must-see danceumentary".[138] Rothkopf described Jackson as "obviously" having been "shooting for the moon right before his death" based on what he could tell from the "stunning bits of concert spectacle" of "phalanxes of computer-generated dancers, tempo changes on a dime, a bombshell of a blond guitarist who plays Eddie Van Halen’s “Beat It” solo flawlessly".[138] Rothkopf stated that: "But the true value of this raw rehearsal footage is its emphasis, less known, on MJ’s laserlike attention to detail, as he works his band and troupe up to speed. A firm floor manager himself, he’s often exposed—and probably wouldn’t have approved of this film. (One on one, High School Musical’s Kenny Ortega, meanwhile, treats him with kid gloves: “I agree, Michael.”) But to see him sweetly lose himself in “Human Nature” (“I like living this way…”) is to feel a creature of the stage finally returned home, and possibly on the cusp of redemption."[138] Peter Paras, of E! Online felt that watching Jackson and his performance's in a positive aspect is the "genius and the sadness of the entire film".[139] He did note that Jackson's performance of Earth Song, which consists of using Jackson's voiceover to emphasize his environmental concerns while a bulldozer threatens to eat him, was well intentioned - because it brought attention to environmental concerns - but felt it was a little over the top.[139] Paras felt the film showed an "exacting and refreshingly funny side of Jackson to be revealed" and "had Jackson lived, we never would have seen those moments" and felt the film was a proper way to "finally say goodbye" to Jackson.[139]

Randall Roberts of LA Weekly had a mixed opinion on the film, feeling that "the problem is that Ortega offers only the public" Jackson and commented that "die-hard" Jackson fans should "prepare to be thrilled — and heartbroken".[140] Roberts criticized the film for "whitewashing" the audience by only letting them "witness" Jackson through the eyes of his employees in a film "designed not only to illuminate Jackson’s final days but also to set the terms of future conversation about them" and commented that the film does not show him "as an alleged child molester or a helpless, drug-addicted wreck but as a force of nature and, above all, a dancer".[140] Traver's also criticized the film for showing "the cleanest, most positive spin on the last days" of Jackson and questioned that "what other, potentially more dynamic stories hide inside the 100 hours of footage from which This Is It was culled? "[140]

Marjorie Baumgarten of Austin Chronicle referred to the film as being "neither a true concert film nor a strict behind-the-scenes documentary, This Is It is, like Jackson himself, a real hybrid" and felt that while the film's "made up of lots of grainy footage, which Ortega has edited together seamlessly" it will also "provide a fitting farewell".[137] Baumgarten noted that "the finished film is a fairly complete concert run-through with each song edited" and that while the film will easily show that it was made for a profit, that, the audience will see a "film to be a fitting elegy."[137] Joe Morgenstern, of The Wall Street Journal, felt the film was "expertly packaged—brilliantly packaged", and noted that the film "quite convincingly" had emphasized that Jackson had enough energy to perform, even with his "wraith-thin body".[141] Ann Powers, of Los Angeles Times said that while the film offers only a few such "insights into Jackson's artistic process, though enough surface to make this a useful document, as well as a beautiful one" that the film is "a piece with Jackson's body of work: dazzling and strange, blurring the line between fantasy and reality".[142] She described Ortega's editing to make the film feel like a real concert film as being "almost too good to believe".[142] Powers praised the film for showing "intimate views" of Jackson, like his "vulnerable moments" during performances and felt the film was made "to honor not just the memory of Jackson but the hard work of a big cast and crew that never made it to opening night", which she felt mostly is a tribute to the "power of Jackson's body and voice". Powers stated she'd felt the film was such "a tragic teaser for the shows that might have been, 'This Is It' hurts. If Jackson had been able to perform as he frequently does during these scenes, he would have accomplished the comeback for which he was so hungry."[142] She praised Jackson's performance's of Beat It and The Way You Make Me Feel and Billie Jean, because "sequences are driven by Jackson's anomalous grace" and appear to feel "enhanced; his gauntness is downplayed; split screens make the dancing more magical; a careful sound mix hides most of the roughness for which any middle-aged singer must compensate."[142] She noted that Jackson's "total lack of engagement with the cameras adds to the unreal mood" because he was always performing - "but for the imagined masses, not for the filmgoer" and that the film doesn't "entirely acknowledge that reality, and that's a little odd".[142]
"We see Jackson as a perfectionist, a generous boss, a tough taskmaster and a playful child. Off guard and probably unaware that it would ever be seen by the public, we find Jackson pushing his band and production team to the limit with demands to "let it sizzle" and "make the music simmer". Obsessive Jacko fans may be shocked by his Diva-ish behaviour as he complains about ear-pieces, but it's heartening to finally view the late singer as a rounded human with regular failings and imperfections. Similarly a scene featuring Jackson screaming "weeeee!" with childish glee as he moves around the stage on a giant cherry-picker, will surely bring a smile to even the most cynical viewer"

Lou Lumenick, of the New York Post strongly criticized both the film and Jackson's performances - both aspects which were highly and the most praised by critcs. Lumenick criticism of Jackson's performances was he felt Jackson moves "stiffly and lethargically" and that it was "clear" that Jackson was lip-synching while performing 'Thriller'.[144] He felt Jackson's performance of 'Smooth Criminal' looked "incongruous, to say the least" and that "the hokey environmental visuals accompanying 'Earth Song' are even worse", and cited Beat It as being the movie’s "only half-decent number".[144] Lumenick said that he was certain that a "perfectionist" like Jackson wouldn't want to have been remembered by a "shoddy piece of exploitation".[144] David Edwards, of Daily Mirror, stated that while he felt that the film is a "success" he overall disliked the film, having felt that "as an exercise in wringing every last penny from Jackson's legacy" the film "most certainly isn't it" a tribute.[145] Alex Fletcher, of Digital Spy described the film as having been an "essential viewing" and praised the film for showing "the real Michael Jackson" - which consisted of "difficult, odd, kind, obsessive and funny". He cited Jackson's best performances as Thriller and Billie Jean and the "worst material", Earth Song.[143] While, Flethcer did feel that, based on the rehearsal footage, that Jackson "falls short of his groundbreaking 'Dangerous' and 'Bad' world tours" he noted that Jackson's age and thinness was mostly likely a factor in his performances and described Jackson as having more "star quality and charisma than a million Simon Cowell factory-line production pop singers".[143] He stated that would have been concert could have been potentially one of the "grandest and most visually stunning concerts of all time - never got to see the light of day".[143]
